Default Ok, we need to clear this up, people aren't getting something

Update - Friday April 20
Loot Changes

* Adjusted the following items so that they are now exempt from loot scaling:
o Skill Tomes
o Scrolls
o Dye
o Rare materials, such as Ectoplasm
o Gemstones from the Domain of Anguish
o All other rare (gold) items
o All unique (green) items
o Special event items

This means, that the best way to get Greens, Golds, Ectos, Dye, etc., is STILL SOLO FARMING. Now, for ectos, since each run needs to drop at least one to pay for UW (as you probably will no longer get 2k worth of crap anymore) yes, the price probably will go up a LITTLE bit. Here's my reasoning:

8-man farm: 8 times faster, normal amount of drops, 1/8 chance of getting a drop (so this is still better for loot farming) (example, 8 golds drop, you get 1)

1-man farm: 1/8 the drops, but everything on that list will drop THE SAME. (example, 8 golds will STILL drop, and you will get all 8.)

So, Green farming is the same. Ecto farming is a little different, but if you have a lot of starting money, the same. Anet seems to be promoting people to solo farm for that green/gold item they really want, which is cool, and not what bots do :P.

I hope this clears up a lot, and yes, I have tested this in an area on hard mode, and even though I received little drops, the drops I did receive were often Golds/Other unique items. And, I got much more Golds per/hour/minute then when Mass-Kill-Farming with henchies/heros.

But wait, one thing is still a problem. Anet nerfed mass solo farming. Now they should play with groups. But here's the thing, most botters have 10+ accounts! Sure the bot might be a little harder to program now, and slow down botters for a little bit, but they will be just as effective as before.

So, in conlusion, Green farmers keep doing your thing, Ecto farmers keep doing your thing, but **** you bots as you keep ruining this game. Green prices should not go up, anyone who charges more is BSing you. Ectos might rise a little bit, but the should be dropping enough.

I think that people will be doing more UW farming now, since that's one of the better farms right now. Ectos will go down in price, I think.

Most of the furor has waned, but I still think some folks have missed the news about the new update and its implications.

Repeated map entry no longer reduces loot.
Does this mean that the farming code is no longer in effect or just the volume is not impacted, i would think that ecto would be dropping like glittering dust if this implies that farming code has been removed, have not had a chance to see, to busy with LB farming.

As such group farming in Hard Mode would be best but Hench AI sucks now

soo... only the white/blue drops were nerfed? so just to kick some bots and do some psychological effect on the soloers? (if you see 5 items drop from 50 mobs you think 'omg nerf, no more farming') ?

thx that someone bothered to clear that out. put this as sticky if possible.

The value of everything is going to drop, as people and bots alike are going to have less of that merchant money from junk drops that they would spend on buying things on the market. This is still a fairly effective nerf, just a surreptitious one. Sure solo-farming is still the best way to nab greens/golds/ectos, but you are going to be receiving less and less for your trouble. It will just take some time for economy prices to adjust to this.

Guild wars keeps on nerfing soloing and drops. I have had 4 people in my guild quit guild wars because the drop rate of soloing in normal mode. Guild wars needs to quit adjusting solo farming, that was, and is one of the reasons people play it is to solo farm, and to get good drops they can sell. However guild wars has a bad habit about changing things and messing up the other parts of the game that keep people playing the game. Changing the game should make game play more fun and attract people to the game not make people mad and quit. It seems like the upsdates are making people mad and more peopel are becoming angry at guild wars and are quitting. Chang the game back to the way it was months ago quit nerfing things and people will return.

One thing is for sure is that nerfing has cause people to actually stop playing and quiting rather then causing them to keep playing or get people back to playing. Back then when there was no AOE nerf, there was a lot of people playing besides the bots, even with IWAY back then and tombs was frustrating, people still play just to exploit the system. For regular people who just farm for armor and things, they prob have to spend hours on end to get decent amount of gold for their 15ks.

More hours spent on playing to achieve something means grinding.

Actually, I spent like 5 days farming for my 15k druid's, and that was BEFORE Ettins were nerfed!

Instead of all this tweaking, ANet should either:

-Make more quests reward you with gold. Those EXP quests are useless. Like 500 EXP is anything to cheer about. Only the UW/FoW/Titan quests give good EXP, though by then you really only need EXP so you can brag about your 2 mil EXP milestone.

-<Job> Professions! I know everybody doesn't want GW to be like WoW, but I would take crafting and merchanting stuff over farming for hours on end.

From what I've seen as insane as it may sound
constantly farming in one area atually increases the amount of loot. . .
I spent around an hour and a half doing dual titan farms in DoA last night
At the start I was getting 1-2 drops each time
At the end of the time I was getting 4-7
I'm not joking!
So I dont have a clue whats going on

That happened to me with troll farming.

(FYI, even with the trolls scattering nerf, if you lured them into a small corner it still worked, just took a few minutes longer)

With the nerf gone, went back to farming them without having to corral them into a corner. Got junk (actually trolls seemed to have not been dropping even blues for me for months), though on my third run or so at least I got the usual 1k total profit of one run.

So is the changes only happen in Hard mode? so even if i solo uw now in normal i will likely to get any ecto? am i rite?

I read that oon site and guildwiki, but then i did some testing of my own.

I SOLOed(just me no henchies) Mindclouder and Skybringer. Outcome:
5 Times soloed No green!. Only drop was 100g and a blue scroll.

Next i brought 7 henchies and flagged out of range. Outcome from same bosses:
From FIRST drop(just mindclouder from one solo) The mindclouder, A req 9 purple cane, 300g, and a gold Berserker scroll.

Rest of drop with henchies were very good too.(included more Greens and gold scrolls and grapes)

I dropped henchies again and soloed a couple time. No drops but another blue scroll.

A coinsidence? Possibly or could the party size really affect drops?

Note: I soloed bosses in HARD MODE.

Well in normal mode the drops are cut in about 1/3 for soloing have not tried with hero's/hench but Guild wars needs to quit changing every month find a build then they nerf it find a farm spot then they nerf it, I farm to buy armor for all my characters but at this new rate looks like they will be naked.

Agreed.

I had just started farming Hydra and Vermin 2 weeks back to get my feet wet. I just started playing a few months ago. I am probably not as good at GW as most posters here (but probably better than average PUG players). If I go to UW right now, probably would get my ass kicked.

I had started Chest running. Would farm, buy keys from farming cash and chest run for title and that occasional maybe lucky rare drop.

Its great that Gaile and team are thinking of all the Veterans but spare a thought for the new and casual players.

If you repeatedly farm a certain area the drops will increase. Not only do they make people want to buy gold, they also make it easier for the companies who sell that gold to use their bots to farm for it.

White drops are nerfed (solo-wise) in both modes, however because hard mode is what it is, hard mode, and the rewards are greater, you are more likely to get decent drops. The flagging henchies thing doesn't work, and is coincidence if you get more drops (you guys seriously think Anet wouldn't think of that??).
It takes into account people in the area of the fight. Not raw party size.
