Confirmed: Troll farming in Droks NOW works!
This just in:
An alliance member of mine was asking today if the Troll build from so long ago still worked, and if the drops were good.
So, I loaded up my warrior up and headed for Talus Chute near Droknors Forge, to check.
Of course my first thought was they were going to run away, but they didn't, they stood and fought, exactly like before Nightfall was released.
The Droknors Forge Troll farming area is no longer a problem for the following build:
Cyclone Axe
Triple Chop
Bonetti's Defence
Vigorous Spirt
Dolyaks Sig
Sprint
Live Vic
And of course Mending
The build works 100% perfectly, just like before, and if you don't believe me go on and try it.
Great drops for me, a purple/gold everytime.
Hard mode is yet to be tried with this build.
Have fun with this oldschool build
-Silly

I am gonna try tomorrow m8, (I am at work ATM), tnx.
I tried also the Ettins at Beetletun, with that build... in normal mode it also works, I tried in Hard Mode... no succes because they hit hard, maybe we have to think of another build. In Hard mode they are lvl 25.

It may work, but with such a miniscule drop rate of merch fodder whites and blues, the run may be so unprofitable its not even worth it. Still, i guess for old times sake i might do a few runs.

I wouldn't bother trying it on Hard Mode, as they will certainly scatter.

All advanced AI tricks such as AoE scattering were removed from normal mode.
Trolls have been dropping junk for me lately, though. May just be my luck.
BTW, even with the AoE scattering, you could have killed the trolls. There's some small areas in the cave you can lure them into, so cramped they will not run away as often, but it takes considerably longer than back when they didn't flee.
I've yet to attempt it in hard mode (I die on the run over to the cave).

the Ele fire build still works even with hard mode. if you're having trouble getting to the cave due to the avicara, just go into the zone with 7 henchies/heroes and just flag them as distractions.

Trolls have always dropped crap and will always drop crap. The main reason most people farm them is because it's fast easy exp.

Now that whites, blues, and purples scale down while soloing, there is absolutely no reason to farm trolls, since most of your money was made by merchanting the crap.

Grab 7 henchies and keep them at the entrance of droks. You get normal drops but have to share gold.

just tried using the old Griffon Farming Balths Aura build on the trolls outside droks.
The mobs don't scatter in normal mode till they hit about 15% life.. then they all take off. no big deal, least it's not as bad as before.
hard mode is near impossible for the build I tried, i tanked 2 of them for about 5 minutes, and couldn't do enough damage before they scattered. and they all have healing signet now.
Don't have factions so i can't try the Triple chop.. (may be the only reason i buy factions is for the skills.)

uhhh no...
*thats every troll in the "beginning" + "middle back" of the cave.* 1 tribal blade and 101 gold.*
being solo i got 2 troll tusks and a raven staff and like 40 gold.
gg anet.... thanks for killing solo farming, the only fun thing in the game to do after you beat the game.

He's right. You'll get an unscaled amount of golds/dyes (but 0*8=0), but your whites, blues and grapes will still be scaled. I can confirm this from both experience and the official speak:

Answer: No, bad idea! Here's why: Drops are determined by, let's call it "active party size." Your active party size is determined by presence in the "area of interest" or, for simplicity, the enlarged aggro bubble. So a monster isn't going to say "Hey, back there at the entrance, this Ele has 7 other friends, I shall therefore drop a generous drop appropriate for an 8-member party!" No, the monster is going to say, "What is this guy nuts, trying to solo me?" No, seriously, the monster is going to say "Huh, one guy, my loot is therefore appropriate for a one-person party." And he will drop a smaller reward based on that assessment.
The problem--the "gotcha" is--all the gold that the monsters drop will be split between the full 8-member party, even if the other 7 Henchies and Heroes are off having a picnic with the Res Shrine Priest and aren't lifting a finger in battle.
So while it's creative to think of staking non-combatant party members outside the combat zone, you're only shooting yourself in the foot.

Darn, ANet thought of everything. Guess when I did that hench flagging trick the other day I only imagined better drops.
The trolls still work for the exp farming, though.
