The whole point of Dragon Slash is to churn out the hard hitting sword attacks by granting obscene ammounts of adrenaline. Sever and Gash are not hard hitting by anyones standards.
While the deep wound provided by Gash is very nice, being able to repeatedly hit 37+ on the majority of your attacks will get you much closer to killing someone than two low damage attack skills and a deep wound will.
As such, I prefer to use 3 of the high adrenaline, high damage sword attacks or Sun and Moon Slash + FGJ in conjunction with Dragon Slash. It works wonders.
While people are saying that the recharge and mana cost on FGJ make it garbage, i like to use it because it allows me to maintain my damage while fitting more utility in the build. If all i need to do damage is Sun n Moon, Dragon Slash, and FGJ, that leaves me 4 slots for whatever would be helpful. A run stance, an IAS, a self heal, and maybe something like Shock, Bull's Strike, Protectors, Plague Touch, Mending Touch, whatever you want there.
If you're going to run Dragon Slash, make use of its potential.
Here's a template code for a build that you may enjoy for AB and the like, its fairly self-sufficient and can really dish out some damage.
