Best Bows for Crippling (PvP) and Silencing (PvE)?
I'm a bit torn on this. At first, I figured that applying Cripple would be best suited to a recurve bow (due to the short flight time) since your target may likely be moving, but I've been playing with a longbow because I've found that it's hard to get into range to apply the cripple if the target is pre-kiting.
What are your preferences?
I have the same issue when using Broad Head Arrow - since it is already a slow moving arrow, does using a Recurve over a Longbow make that much of a difference (if any)? Do skills like Favorable Winds speed up the Broad Head Arrow?

Personally, I tend to stick with a recurve almost always in PvP. If you want to cripple and are having trouble with targets kiting out of range, you may encounter equal problems using a longbow since despite it's range, the arc on a longbow may likely result in a missed shot at a moving target at a long range.
When using Broadhead Arrow, there is nothing that can reduce the arc of the shot. However, the longer the distance from your target, the more arc you will experience on your shot, regardless of your bow. Therefore, even though the arc is technically the same for all bows in BHA, having a bow that has a shorter range will keep you close to your target and hence give a lower arc to the shot.
My personal bow preference for almost all PvP builds I run (bow based of course) is a Poisonous Recurve of Fortitude. Even when I run Crip and Dazed builds, I still almost always have Apply Poison in my skill bar.

I use a longbow for cripshot and a recurve for Daze/rupt builds. (PvE POV)
As for the reasons:
Crippling longbow: I want to prevent foes of reaching me or my teamies, or stopping foes from fleeing. The range is good for this purpose and it has an OK accuracy.
Silencing recurvebow:
Reduces flight time for BHA, more accurate the longbow, tho shorter range. When you use BHA you want to hit you target. Its pure pain to wait for the recharge.
Going offtopic, Im trying out a build, using Archers Sig and Concussion Shot. It works surpricingly well.

Grenths Grasp/Called Shot solves all problems with crippling. Unless your really paying close attention to the ranger using it you won't be dodging it. Aside from that... Recurve all the way.

Recurve -crippling.
Shortbow-dazed, specially for BhA you should get in point blank, although I guess mobs don't kite much in PvE.

If you don't mind the slight hijacking - but what about Poison (for you) makes it an "always have" in PvP?

Most people don't bring condition removal. That's a good reason to have poison with you. And if there's a monk who DOES have condition removal, he can be kept dazed. ^_^

i use recurve for both. bolten's recurve bow and sha-whatever-i-can't-remember-the-name recurve bow are the green equivalents, and are both very nice.
poison on a ranger is extremely powerful in pvp because it greatly supplements the offensive power of your entire team. because it is applied by a ranger, it can quite easily be spread to every target in sight, resulting in some terrific DPS. since rangers are also often called upon to gank and go off solo, the poison degeneration makes them extremely dangerous in a skirmish.

I've never tested it. But i've heard from several different people that BHA is a set flight time. Changing bow, using Read the Wind or Favourable Winds won't change the arc. In other words... not even god can change the arc on BHA. Its an unconditional dazed for 15e. To a ranger built around this skill that 15e can mean nothing, if it was possible to lower the arc the skill would be extremely over powered.

I've tested it myself and there is in fact no way to reduce the arc. On a side note, it is kinda fun to go out to the Isle of Solitude and get up to the top of the stair case and shoot off a BHA to the the farthest target possible and lay back for a couple of minutes until the arrow actually lands, lol.

Interesting takes on BHA. Because the arc doesn't change by the bow, I guess the primary reason to take a bow is how to continue to interrupt the target after the initial application. That makes me think that either the Flatbow or Shortbow are the best silencers, because they have the fastest refire rate for the subsequent lockdown.
I'm going to play with both to see which one I prefer - I had really only been using a Recurve and now it seems like it may be more inferior than the other options. Maybe Flatbow for the initial application and switching bows for the subsequent interrupting? hmmm....
