Ettin farming build (best I have seen so far)
well, farming the ettins is quite popular but for some reason everyone uses warriors i thought my build wasnt all that great but i was looking at the warrior builds and they looked SO slow so i decided to give my ele build wich owns the ettins in 15-20 seconds after the initial aggro
Also : I got sup abs last night! (finally after like 5 months of ettin farming!) but then went to trader and he was gonna give me 50k! i was pissed so now i am putting out this build bcuz i want you guys to feel the same way
Attributes:
Fire: 15 (11+3+1)
Earth: 11 (10+1)
Energy Storage: 11 (10+1)
Skills:
Flare
Fireball
Flame burst
Meteor Shower
Ward against Melee
Armor of Earth
Aura of Restoration
Elemental Attunement (E)
The process:
Its rather simple but ill give a definition of the uses for each skill
Flare: this is only to take out the pesky tengu at the beginning and if you want to kill the ettins that are almost dead
Fireball: to do damage to the ettins when afar or close
Flame Burst: to do damage to nearby ettins or to kill ettins that are running away with very little health (1/4 sec cast FTW)
Meteor Shower: This may sound like overkill but it is the pinnacle of the build, not only does it it do 101 dmg per ettin per hit (3 hits total) but it also knocks down wich interrupts the heal sigs and when this happens 101 becomes 202!!!
Ward against melee: this one is obvious but when you aggro the ettins put this on so you take half the dmg
Armor of earth: ramps up your health by 50 so you take considerably less damage and therfore survive
Aura of restoration: this heals you for 334% of the energy cost of each spell so that you live
Elemental attunement: energy management (all skills cost half the energy)
with this said i think you can figure out the rest (anything i missed)
PS: let e know if there is anthing that i could change or that i left out

not bad, but I go fire/water
Fire: 15 (11+3+1)
Water: 14 (11+3)
Energy storage: 9 (8+1)
Skills
Mist Form
Fire Attunement
flare
Fireball
Flame Burst
Pheonix
Meteor Shower
Armor of Mist
basically, I agro, cast Mist Form, Meteor Shower, Pheonix, then Flame Burst. They will all be dead before the third meteor hits, unless one gets away, in that case just finish them off with fireball, flare and/or flame burst. Armor of Mist makes running past the scales/mergoyles a breeze. Mist Form lets you take on as many Ettins at once since you will take 0 damage. Flame Burst is almost unneed, but I like it just to make sure they dont get away.
The Tengu are easy, just hit the mesmer first with fireball, then run in and flam burst, once he is dead, the archer is easy, especially if you use Mist Form.

Perhaps a newbie question, but where are Ettins farmed, and how do I get there?

From Lion's Arch, if you take the giants basin route you can bypass the Tengu. Then make a left before the swamps and you come out right in the middle of the ettin farming area in Ascalon Settlement.
My ettin farming build for my ele:
Energy Storage: 12 (11+1)
Fire Magic: 11 (10+1)
Air Magic: 13 (10+3)
- Air Attunement (Air Magic)
For 57 seconds, you are attuned to Air. You gain 30% of the Energy cost of the Spell whenever you use Air Magic.
Energy:10 Cast:2 Recharge:60
- Elemental Attunement [Elite] (Elementalist other)
For 45 seconds, you are attuned to air, fire, water, and earth. You gain 50% of the Energy cost of the Spell each time you use magic associated with any of these elements.
Energy:10 Cast:2 Recharge:60
- Aura of Restoration (Energy Storage)
For 60 seconds, you are healed for 350% of the Energy cost each time you cast a Spell.
Energy:10 Cast:0.25 Recharge:20
- Fireball (Fire Magic)
Target foe and all adjancent foes are struck for 84 fire damage.
Energy:10 Cast:2 Recharge:7
- Meteor Shower (Fire Magic)
Create a Meteor Shower at target foe's location. For 9 seconds, foes adjacent to that location are struck for 84 fire damage and knocked down every 3 seconds. This Spell causes Exhaustion.
Energy:25 Cast:5 Recharge:60
- Enervating Charge (Air Magic)
Target foe is struck for 44 lightning damage and suffers from Weakness for 18 seconds. This Spell has 25% armor penetration.
Energy:10 Cast:1 Recharge:8
- Lightning Strike (Air Magic)
Strike target foe for 44 lightning damage. This Spell has 25% armor penetration.
Energy:5 Cast:1 Recharge:5
- Lightning Orb (Air Magic)
Lightning Orb flies toward target foe and strikes for 88 lightning damage if it hits. This Spell has 25% armor penetration.
Energy:15 Cast:2 Recharge:5
You must keep your enchants up or you are screwed. They are the lifeblood of the build. You also want to time the meteor shower so it drops as the second or third ettin is on you. Then follow up with fireball and the air spells. The various air spells are there for spammability, damage, and also heath gains.
You can't take on more then about four ettins with this one. But it is fun to use and does the job.

it isnt quite as easy as that as the mesmer uses cry of frustration. i find a better tactic is to cast flare twice first then rodgorts invocation and fireball. the first flare will hit as he is busy casting conjure phantasm the second one will be interrupted by cry of frustration thus clearing the way for you to burn him without interruption.
good build though ill have to go cap mist form. which boss has it?

I don't remember the boss. But as far as the mesmers go, it really is that easy. I don't agro them before I cast Fireball, I let the spell do that. So the fireball is on its way before he ever reacts. Flameburst has never been interupted when I cast it. Sometimes the ranger gets in the way of that process, in which case, I do what you just said.

no because Mist Form doesn't reduce damage to 0, instead it makes it so that you never get hit. Since you are not being hit, it will not trigger Balth.

Well 5 months to farm the ettins!!! I hope you have enjoy this game, lol. Nevertheless, I farm a little these ettins but no more than one or two times a week, and most of the time i get major runes on gold armor (never see a sup rune!), perhaps i am unlucky.

I use a similar build for farming ettins but try this-
Change flare for echo, meteor shower for inferno and ward against melee for fire attunment. This is because flare-only hits one ettin, meteor shower-long recast/cast time and armour of earth is plenty of defense for ettins so drop ward against melee.
Fire attunement + ele attunement=constant energy
Echo(flame burst)=constant health refill and nice, fast damage.
Inferno=Nice amount of damage.
Usually take ettins on in 7 but could probably do more.

Would there happen to be an earth alternative to farming ettins? Since going with the flow is starting to bother me ide rather use something such as earth to kill things such as ettins/trolls/hyrdras/minotaurs.

It's Brrrr Windburn. He shares his spawn point with 2 other bosses, and is probably the easiest to capture Mist Form from because his spawning points are very close to Camp Rankor.
