Default quick question regarding stoneflesh

ok, this may sound stupid, but why does stoneflesh aura work with mantra of earth to yield 0 damage but doesnt do anything for a 55 build? is it because of the wording on prot spirit?
the reason i ask is because i was playing around with the 1hp build (originally found here: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10149647 ) and tried stoneflesh aura instead of life sheath. too bad it doesnt work... but i guess then ele farmers would be ungodly powerful. way to anticipate, ANet!

I think you're thinking of [skill]Stone Striker[/skill], not Stoneflesh Aura. Stoneflesh reduces damage, Striker changes it to Earth damage which is reduced through Mantra.

no, im just wondering why stoneflesh aura tirggers after prot spirit. theoretically, if prot spirit would trigger first, you would have a 55 build that always took 0 damage. with life sheath, the prot spirit can trigger first, allowing the life sheath to only take one damage. when using stoneflesh aura in place of life sheath, it triggers sometimes but the damage still goes through on occasion.

example:
on a hydra, i use prot spirit followe by life sheath and it deals no damage to me. when i used prot spirit followed by stoneflesh aura, the first several attacks deal 0 damage to me, then occasionally i would get hit for 5, then i would get hit consistently for 5. why does the stonflesh aura randomly reduce the damage? or am i just stupid and not doing something right?

stone striker comes into my question in that when using stone striker, mantra of earth, and stoneflesh aura, the stone striker makes all damage earth damage, mantra of earth reduces that damage, and stoneflesh aura eliminates what remains of that damage. thus, mantra of earth consistently triggers first, as opposed to prot spirit which randomly does so.

I came up with this idea very early as a concept build, but didn't test it.

Others tested it and determined it didn't work.

However, there was a very creative build with Protective BOND and Stoneflesh Aura that did work.

I named the whole thing "Stoneguard", so search on that and you should find the prior discussion.
