I've never done Sf, but I'm guessing you'd have to take Judge's Insight and other types of Holy Damage--I would personally run something like this build:

Barrage
Judge's Insight
Distracting Shot
Lightning Reflexes (Opt.)
Whirling Defence
Troll Unguent
Mend Ailment or Antidote Signit
Live Vicariously

Like I said, I've never ran this. Here is a website you can look at for good Ranger tips: http://wiseelben.com/rangersbeacon/

It's really hard to find a true pickup group in SF. Most do it with guildies if they want a balanced group.

I totally agree. SF parties are extremely hard to comeby. Usually you'll find ORO Farmers.

5 man farmers are useless when doing those quests.

You can do 2 of those quests with henchies. 1 (human ranger - spy quest) is very long, but easy to do. Priest is harder, but manageable (but must have human players). Oro is the hardest quest to do (must have human players). The other one is the easiest to do.

What should you use? Frozen Soil - stops anyone from being rezed.

Disrupts, poisons and cures are excellent. If you are R/Mo, then say that you have remove hexes and mend aliments. This will allow monks to concentrate on protection and healing. If you are a R/N, then make sure you have wells and MM. Priests of Sorrows are nasty. They will rez and continue to rez until you or they are all dead.

If you can deny them energy and spells then you are excellent for SF. Enemy necros and priests are vicious and must be killed on site.

I have W/R, Mo/E, and N/Me there. My Mo/E is finished with SF except for Final assault. My last character R/Mo isn't there yet, but having played a bit in SF, I know what to expect.

Rangers aren't the best for damage, but frozen soil, winter and disruptions are excellent skills to bring. Reading the Wind, Tiger's Fury, and the spirit that speeds your arrows will help you shut down spell casters.

Hope this helps.

me too im having hard time gettin party with ranger.... unless its my guild, cuz they know me some dont even realise that pet(low lvl) is a minion factory for MM and that frosen soil is great vs priests. sometimes i cant but wounder: why rangers are not appriciated anywhere but ToPK or guild teams? ranger with low lvl pet creates a great minion factory, distrupts grashers from makin their fiends, can deal mass damage to up to 6 targets with barrage. my build is:

baragge,
frosen soil
savage shot
apply poison
whirling defence or lightning reflexes or dodge (whatever u like more)
trall enguent
pet (must be a low lvl)
pet rez

*sometimes i replace either apply poison by rebirth, it depends who i play with

16 marks
10 wilderness
rest in expertise
*no attributes in beast mastery
*must have a +30hp bow(for that build elswyth long or recurve) and sup vigor
*the sup rune goes on your archer's mask, but just in case of dp keep a second archers mask with a minor marks (archers mask is collectors mask that does +1 marks STACKING)

-----> I'D LOVE TO HEAR FEED-BACK ON THIS BUILD. i know its not perfect, but with your feed back it might become a perfect SF build

SF has turned into a green-item farming area along time ago, I would recommend
grabbing henchies and cruise GF to try-out builds, fast and east to do, form a 6 or 7
person team, have some Shiverpeak keys and hit all the bosses, I usually a green every
3 trips.
I have done all but the high priest Alkar with henchies, and I almost got that to, just
did not sprint back in time on the last crystal, I have been using my new pet spider
on these runs, put BM at 16 and your pet can tank pretty good, use Brutal strike for
great damage.
