Smiter in PvE
Why is ppl so negative to smiters in PvE?
Don't they realise the potentiel of a monk throwing Soj and healing breeze on a tank, and back that up with smite?
Works wonders when I can find a group.

Smiting Prayers skills require a lot of energy, and SOJ isn't that effective unless enemies are hitting one single target.
Then Balthazar's Aura (25 energy AND makes monsters flee), Symbol of Wrath.... I just don't think a smiter is any good.

Yea, yea, farm UW some moe...
Smite isn't that good in PvE because there are better options from other classes. Eles, Necros, whatever. Also Smite doesn't combine well with a lot of things. For example, SoJ ruins Spites, which does much more damage.

ummm...no. smite was all but designed to be a weaker damage dealer than other classes. Yes, smite healers can be effective, but not as effective as a pure healer or a pure prot (or a mix of those 2.)
Monks are all about bang for the buck. If people wanted a monk that healed only part time, they'd grab a blood necro or a E/Mo. They've better damage on a whole than a smiter.
Divine Favor gives us that little extra something. From a 60 HP spell to a 90 HP spell heal. thats why monks are wanted.
If you've just gotta smite and you want to hurt some critters, take zealot's fire and smite hex with you...and drop as much as you can into heal and divine. At least that way you're really contributing.
btw: you should have outgrown breeze by now. Heal other is much more effective, with heal touch for you.

Thats why you pick a tank that rushes in and takes first agro, don't forget that SOJ knocks the attacker down and acts as a kind of interupt as well as give dmg.

It's because on a team, a smiter's attributes are spread too thin between their skills to adequately manage damage, healing, and energy at the same time, whereas a boon/prot monk or a healing monk only has to worry about two of those things.
Simple Terms:
Smiter needs:
Smiting
Healing or Prot (or both, I've run a healing smiter with Aegis in pvp)
Divine Favor
Energy management
that's 4 different things, and normally your energy management attribute has to be an 8 or a 10 (usually 10)
Straight Healer/Protector
Heal/Prot
Divine Favor
Energy Management
...simply, it's not that the smiter is worse, the smiter has great skills for a team... it's just that there aren't enough attribute points in the game to effectively do it.
EDIT: SoJ isn't used as an "interrupt", it's generally used to give whoever you threw it on a break from the damage as well as dealing a large amount of damage to whatever attacks...an interrupt actually stops a skill in mid-use, whereas SoJ fails as an interrupt because the attack still hits in order to knock down the target...it does **however** slow dps to the one enchanted with it, so it does "interrupt" damage in general.

PvE'ers play smite because it's quick and fun damage. With my Necro, I use the following for PvE in groups:
Attributes:
Blood: 16
Smite: 12
Soul Reaping: 4
Skills:
1.) Vampiric Gaze
2.) Dark Pact
3.) Well of Blood
4.) Rez or Barbed Signet
5.) Bane Signet
6.) Banish
7.) Smite
8.) Grenth's Balance {E}
It does well in PvE and PvP for quick spammable damage. Of course my energy may hit 0 a couple of times but With an energy regen of 4 and spells that cost 5 at least, I don't have any problems spamming damage.
Stockholm, don't listen to anyone that says smite is "bad" in PvE. Use smite with quick spammable damage. It owns the undead in Kryta anyways.

When i deleted and remade my monk on my other account i decided to play smiter (and later smiter/prot).
I can tell you, on the later missions smiters do so much more damage than eles towards bosses.
Meteor Shower = 21 damage ever 3 seconds (25 energy, total, 63 +3 knockdowns)
Symbol of Wrath = 34 damage every second (5 energy, total, 170)
Balthazaars Spirit = 26 damage every second (25 energy, total, 260 +any% to enchant)
Throw prot spirit and RoF on yourself and go tank jade armours, its funny to watch them flee in terror as you chase after them with your stark naked monk.
It does suck though that people hate PvE smiters so much

Meteor Shower hits every 3 seconds, which does not trigger aoe scattering. Symbol of wrath and Balths aura (which I assume you meant) both do, and should never ever be used in pve now that aoe triggers scattering.

My built is as follows, and I never runout of energi
Healing 10
Smiting 15
Protection 6
Divine 6
Healing Breeze +7 regen
Heal Other 132 health
Blessed Signet 16 energi gain
SOJ 20 sec 50 dmg.+ knock down
Symbol of Wrath 32 dmd/sec
Smite 55dmg + 35 holy
Mending +3 healt regen
Rebirth
and energi is never a problem just use Blessed signet
and when you throw Soj on yourself follow with SoW then they take dmg while they are on the ground aswell, and if they run away you get time to regen and rethrow soj so I don't see a problem with that. To me it's not how fast they go down it's to make sure they do go down and I live and so far I have taken on Titans solo in Hell's Precipice when every one else died( I was not the healer on that mission) and won, and had 1 of 2 Titans sparks beat when a damnd Imp got me. Don't see any tanks do the same do you?

Blessed Signet is not really useful for gaining energy, but rather for compensating the loss of energy pips from having multiple maintained enchantments. It certainly isn't the solution to a smiter's energy woes.

Would be interessting to hear your solution, have you a faster way of gaining energy? I dont see Bonettis or Baltazars spirit being as useful to a monk with armor 60 as to a warrior with armor 80 or 85 + absorbing.
But thats just my opinion.

@ Stockholm
are you using mend on yourself only? If so, you will gain 3 energy with each usage of Bleesed Sig (on a 10 sec recharge). Not the greatest energy returns IMO. You would be better off taking another smite/heal/prot/whatever skill and just using natural regen.
Also, IMHO a smiter should be a SMITER not a healer or prot-er with some smites (obviously if you are solo you will need some heal/prot).
A better solution to energy with only 1 maintained enchant (or really any less than about 5 or 6)?
Natural regen
Offering of Blood
Mantra of Recall
Channeling
Essence Bond
Balth's Spirit
Bonnetti's Defense
Energy Tap
Power Drain
Energy Drain
Necro Primary profession (also would help for dmg)
Divine Spirit
Any number of glyphs
Storm chaser
....
obviously I went a little overboard and some of those aren't that great, but my point is that with mending on 1 person (you said you solo stuff) your net gain with Blessed sig is 3 energy every 12 seconds (10 sec recharge + 2 sec cast) and you are really better off with many other options. However, if you are putting mend on 5 or more people (not a good plan IMO) you can get good returns from the sig, but like Effigy said, you are really compensating for the loss of energy pips.
EDIT:
BTW I love blessed sig. I think it is an exceptional skill when maintaining a large amount of enchants, but I usually use it as upkeep between fights. During fights I usually use energy from balths + life bonds or essence bonds if I am planing on maintaining lots of enchants (more than 10).

No I don't solo, that happend during a mission when every one else was dead.
And I maintain at least mending on 2 ppl, myself and 1 or 2 tanks + healing breeze counts as well when calculating enchantments so 3 or 4 gives 12-16 in gain
