Default My Me/E buil idea (i think it's new)

I was looking for a fun build i could really enjoy just sort of messing around with in various places, but still having the ability to help out any team in need, and doing very potent damage at the same time, what i camr up with is this idea, still being thought over:

I was thinking of combining the Meser Domination magic and Fast casting with the Elementalist air magic skills, because air magic seems to be somewhat forgotten.

What i was thinking is to take domination skills such as the usual Energy Burn, Backfire, Empathy etc. . . typical ones really, also Energy Surge as my Elite for area effecting dmg and possibly being echo'd for more dmg, and at the same time taking my new favorite skill: Lightning Orb and maybe Chain Lightning, the fast casting attribute wil help to negate some of the long casting time of the Dom. and Air skills, just off the top of my head i was planning on theese skills:

Energy Surge {E}
Lightning Orb
Back fire
Empathy
Arcane Echo
?
?
?

So my questions:
1. What should my skill set be?
2. What weapon/off hand should i use?

And any other advice is greatly appreciated

Mes air spike is far from unheard of for PvP.

Your skill set will vary depending on where you are using the build. Avoid chain lightning because it brings exhaustion, and preferable use double attunes, else the huge costs of spells like orb will rip you apart, especially as you seem to imply this might be for more of a PvE use.

Use a staff of enchanting to attune, switch to an armor staff or whatever you prefer afterwards. The other mods (recharge) depend on whether you use more domination or air etc.

I would use things to keep our energy up; which is definatly double attunements. I would also suggest spirit of failure+blinding flash.

But you cant have ES & EA because they are both elite.

Ah, i didnt know EA was an elite, well if i had to chose i'd definately keep surge, it's probabaly my favorite skill
Eaimirth Etaivella: With that build since it's elementalist heavy i think it would be E/Me, i never wantred to go so heavy with air magic, i only wanted lightning orb so i could have a reliable spell that did damage unconditional (unlike skills like backfire where the enemy must be casting) so with your build i think a E primary would be able to utilize it better

I do have an elementalist though, which im going to switch to mesmer secondary when i ascend and i'm gonna unlock both Water and Air skills, so that build may be an option for me

Ok, for a more mesmer Mix, go with this:

Energy Burn
Energy Surge {E}
Air Atunement
Lightning Strike
Envenerating Charge
Chain Lightning
Lightning Orb
Energy Tap

That'll keep you in Energy, keep them out of energy if you attack the right foes, and do alot of damage. If you want more Energy Management and less damage, you could do either Elemental Attunment or Energy Drain as elites.

If you can get your hands on the Handsmasher for this build, I'd suggest it. It has a Dom Requirement, helps cast and recharge Energy Tap. Also get an Air Staff to switch to. One with an Enchanting mod would be best.

I would go with this kind of distribution:

Fast: 5 + Rune + Mask
Dom: 10 + Rune
Insp: 9 + Rune
Air: 11 if you can manage it.

I guestimated here with the points, so you may have to adjust

I respectfully beg to differ with Mo Show. This is probably not original, but I was thinking of this the other night:

Me/E Degen Build

12-14 Illusion
9-11 Fire Magic
Rest in Fast Cast, Domination

Flare
Conjure Phantasm
Ineptitude {E}
Empathy
Backfire
Glyph of Lesser Energy
Mark of Rodgort
Res Sig

I use a fire wand to trigger mark's burning and the +15/-1 offhand. Open up with glyph, mark, conjure then start wanding. Using the wand saves all kinds of energy. Inept. when they get too close and backfire or empathy if you have time and energy. I get so many curses hurled my way since both mark and conjure are hexes. Since I mostly target warriors with this build it might not hurt to bring Cry of frustration instead of Backfire to use when they try to use heal sig. Just a thought. I tried mark+fast cast+flare and all i was able to do was run around trying not to die while my energy regened. Hope this was intelligible enough to read. Thanks for your time.

Then you are going to run out of energy quick - if you want high cost skills firing off reguarly you need some form of elite energy management which I'm not seeing.

Switch E-surge to E-burn drop echo, add Lightning strike. Then I'd consider dodge/self heal/energy management.

Would it be possible to drop empathy and backfire, and use Sig of Weariness and Mindwrack? Or would that be too energy rich?

Adding mind wrack i think would imply more of a energy denial build, which i thought about making, but i dont think it would work so well with this build, its do-able, but i just doint know if surge + burn is enough to get that energy down to zero (even when adding their already used up energy)

If you are running a mesmer ele build, which utilises mainly ele skills and you aren't considering elemental attunement as your elite, you deserve to be shot.
If you are taking ele skills to complement a mez build, I honestly doubt it is worth it, considering the mez skills already available and the high energy cost of good ele spells.

Erm...you HAVE to run dual attunements, which is quite risky...or you can stuff in like 3 Inspiration skills.

I agree with Lightning on this one, you either need dual attunements or a lot of inspiration magic in your build.

If you're running lightning magic, you definitely want enervating charge for warriors...it's almost as good as a dodge (if you have a heal) since it reduces dmg they do.

Or you can go for Blinding Flash.
