Solo Farming Ettins [outside of Beetletun]
Okay, so I know that Rangers can and do solo these etins for their pauldrons - but I never can seem to find the build. I have seen some threads where people say to trap them, but they never post their builds so I have tried some of my own. I have even tried using Mark of Pain and Winnowing to boost the effects of some of the traps . . . but this never works. I have also seen someone solo them without using traps, just their bow attacks, and they took on 3 at once! So, if anyone knows the builds used, the link to a site that shows the build, or can link me to another thread I would greatly appreciate it! If not, I must be content with soloing the Ice Golems and Ice Imps, and working towards the Wailing Forest in FoW . . .
PS: My Ranger can currently be /W, /Mo, /Me, and /N and I can get any other secondary thats needed

The core skills for this are generally:
Dust Trap
Flame Trap
Barbed Trap
Whirling Defense
Oath Shot {E}
Storm Chaser
Quickening Zephyr/Serpent's Quickness
Troll Unguent
I generally use Serpent's Quickness rather than QZ because a stance just plain works out better (a 60-sec recharge spirit for 3 ettins seems silly to me). Lay your traps, lay them again, and even lay them again. Oath shot an ettin to pull it, and lay one more set. Keep trapping. Enjoy.

I wouldn't advise whirling def as irresitable blow would then keep you in kd 75% of the time.
Go with dryders or something else that "evades" instead of "blocks"

I didn't even think about that, despite actually doing the run a lot. Removing whirling and storm chaser, and using dodge gives you both a run-past skill, and a decent evasion stance. Thanks for the advice wolydarg.
That also frees up a spot for another skill.

Isn't dodge versus arrows only?

Here's the one I have been using and I like it more than the only traps.
Dust Trap
Flame Trap
Barbed Trap
Poison Arrow {E}
Distracting Shot
Troll Ungent
Storm Chaser
Dodge
Storm Chaser and Dodge combine for 30 seconds of pure running (I hate walking).
Drop 1 of each trap (drop item to mark it); move out poison a group (or 1 or 2 ettins) and pull back to traps; distract healing sigs when you can. Use troll ungent when needed. I've tried multiple Ranger builds for this run over the past year and this seemed to work the best for me.
Don't forget to kill off and wandering Lynx so they don't set off your traps.

Seeing as both skills take 30 seconds to recharge, you should use Storm first, then you end up with about 45 seconds of running, with a 15 second cool down until you can use Dodge again, which by the time it wears off, you'll have about a 3 second cooldown on Stormchaser, which should be around 15 seconds, so when that wears off, Dodge should be ready again.
AHH! What i'm trying to say, without actually doing any math is, that you can basically run continuously with these two skills, with only about 5 seconds of walking in there somewhere.

Also works with mino's.

Dust
Flame
Barb
Vim
Storm Chaser
Dryders
Whirling
Lightning
SOMETHING LIKE TAHT HOKAY?! hokay i say hokay alot...hokay HAVE FUN WITH THE BUILD UP THERE
