Default ranger class boring?

i realize by posting this in the ranger forum i am setting myself up for some nice flames but nevertheless, i have made 3 rangers diff builds each time (barrage, interrupt, sniper) and i found that ranger generally isnt the most fun class to play. I find myself standing there just watching my guy shoot arrows with the occasional click of a skill. I have used them in PvE and PvP and my experiance is generally the same if only a lil better in PvP

is there some fun part of the ranger class that im missing? because 90% of the time its my guy just shooting out arrows with the occasional skill attached

plz enlighten me

Try interrupting. That adds an element of awarness and control to your senseless plinking. Many mesmer skills will sync with a Ranger's play style as well. You could also try trapping, or making a R/W Melee character. That adds something to the profession!

Well there is a Ranger/Necro Touch build, that's different. You might even bring Wells!

You could raise a pet and try to keep it from dying while plinking. B/P (barrage/pet) builds are pretty popular.

You could go all out on a pet build.

You could bring Wards as a R/El

You could try a R/Mo Smite build. (not sure what you would do there, but Expertise works with a few Smite skills)

Point is, there are any number of ways to spice up a proffession. I'd start with trapping/interrupting/melee (hammer ranger's are fun).

If there is no other reason to make a ranger, Female 15k Druids is a reason in and of itself.

Rangers are awesomely well-rounded and versatile. They're like mesmers - it takes a mature player, or one who actually has a ranger to understand their true strength.

Try Trapping, Interrupting, Running, etc. Rangers are quite useful, even if they are a tad frail (but not as frail as casters). My first character was a R/Me, and I love him. I think there's a thread somewhere around here dedicated to their greatness.

Bikini ranger!
Interrupting is fun because to interrupt things like Orison of Healing, you have to get a good sense of timing, because if you wait for it to appear you're going to be too late. Plugging a Concussion Shot straight into the middle of a Mursaat Monk's Orison gives a feeling like no other.

And if you're STILL bored, just go to a dance party and breakdance.

yes, expertise reduces the energy cost of just about anything thats not technically a spell. this can make for some interesting combinations with different secondaries, many of which are listed above in this thread ^

Ranger are one of the most versatile classes. There are many popular but diverse builds, many of which have been mentioned.

Interrupting is a lot of fun though, both in PvE and PvP. It takes good timing and reflexes but is very worthwhile, even if your teammates don't notice or appreciate it as much as they should (this applies to mesmers as well). To get some skills, you practically need to predict the opponent's move before he makes it in order to interrupt short cast times. Very challenging and rewarding.

Yes. When you interrupt that Orison, you feel really good. The faster-cast skills you need to just guess when you feel they will cast it. After a while, you get good at it. It's nice when you do new UW, and your guildies rely on you to pivot back and forth, interrupting two siege wurms at once.

I love to interrupt Giant's stomp, although it's easy to do this. But it keeps my team(sometimes henchies) safer.

My first character was a ranger. He's now up to 1 million exp. I've played him for like 700 hours, so no, rangers aren't boring. My guildmembers got angry because I only played 1 char. (This is not a joke).

I saw one of the most bizarre builds yesterday for Ranger in PvP.

A normal e-denial sorta set up except with 2 R/N using Awaken the Blood following monks CONSTANTLY spamming Vampiric Touch and other skills. Was probably quite amusing for them but after 4 minutes of this i got a little sick of casting RoF on myself the moment i had enough energy.

Nothing is better than interrupter. Rangers have the ability to just totally spam interrupts, even if it hits nothing at all its no big loss, specially when backed up by an order necro (speaking of Barrage/Pet trips to FoW here). Also nothing is more satisfying than watching a team struggle with Willia for a minute or 2, then just slotting 1 concussion shot/distracting shot into Orison of Healing and down she goes.

Looks pretty much the same as the build that I and my guildies used a time ago ^^. We won some matches but we couldn't outdmg a team with 2 monks.

to the OP, I know how you feel, after getting about 200k faction from team arenas and HA, I find that interupting, trapping, sprinter, spiker, whatever get boring after a while. When there isn't anythign fun left, try a different build like thumper or e-denial or degen (DO NOT USE POISON ARROW AS YOUR ELITE)

In my first account, I have the 3 main staple of character: monk, necro, and war. In my second account, I have another monk(for farming) and a ranger.

Of the four characters, I am really realy liking the ranger. It is so freaking challenging to play and it strength is surprising. Perhaps its the "undramatic" animation of ranger skills that gives the impression the class is weak and unexciting.

Think again.

Melandru be praise!

I made a ranger, in fact, my 1st char; deleted her; made a ranger again, my 4th char; deleted him; made rangers a few more times; deleted them. I can play a decent ranger, in fact, just about any build I can think of, but I still would choose something else instead. (Although, I must say, I do enjoy trapping a lot) This isn't to say "yea, rangers are boring" or anything like it. This is merely to illustrate that it's a matter of personal preference. For example, I wouldn't play a war even if I got paid for doing it- I just find Wars extremely boring. So... you are free not to like a class, that doesn't make it boring.
