Default Charming a bear in pre searing

Hi,

First, I know it used to be possible but very hard. Then It became impossible after some patch.

Now, I know some people found a relatively easy way to charm one. I do not only know, but I saw their bear (although it could be a very old one, I don't think so)

One tell me that the bear anti-charm has a limited range.
Basically, have someone fight the bear while you stand at maximum charm range.
When the bear start his mauling attack, cast charm. By this time, the other person go away with the bear to avoid his anti-charm.

I have tried this many times, and each time, the bear still use his anti-charm spell. Did I miss something?

I don't think for this

If you met these people in Post-Searing with bears. I'm sure at 100% they paid a run to go to Droks and go outside to Port Sledge to grab the Bear there.
You can get one in Southern Shiverpeaks anyway. I dont know the point to get one in pre-searing anyway when you meet Nente outside Ascalon in Post-Searing and tell you to bring a Melandru Stalker

It was in pre searing of course, I am not an idiot
We were killing charrs together in northen zone.

I know I can charm bears in southern shiverpeaks, but it is far!
If I can get a bear in pre searing, I would prefer that.
I'm tired of all ranger with their melandru (or sometimes wolves)...

you cant anymore. Odds are they had the bear since before patch, seeing that he/she is hunting charr with you, i'd imagine hes a pretty high level for most pre-searers. <--this happens by being there a while

but i actually almost charmed one since the patch do to some bug. I started charming once it started to use brutal mauling on the warrior tank who was fighting it. He used hammer bash once the bear was about to get brutal off, so the bear was KDed and i was halfway to the charm. I expected it to break charm once it got up but it kept attacking and i was literally 1 more second away and it broke charm finally.

that bear plays a mean mind game

o, and you get bears in North Shiverpeaks to. Just outside of yaks theres almost always 1 or 2. but i have a level 20 hearty strider, i gave up on thw wolf/stalker thing a while ago. Boars are fun pets to cant wait for the cranes in factions!

No, you still can. There is an explanation about it buried in the pet guide thread in community works.

Basically the method you heard of, of having one person draw the bear out of aggro range and far away while the other person is casting their charm, is the way it's done. The problem is, that the timing has to be absolutely perfect and is tedious as all heck. If I recall correctly, when Epinephrine and Sol (our guildmate) did it, it took them a half an hour of failed attempts before they finally managed to pull it off, and that was when Sol already had done it before and thus knew what to do. It really is a timing nightmare.

Oh what the heck, I'll just grab the stuff from the thread.

Eventually I got one to take, and the bear ran out of range, tried to break the charm but failed. It seems like it's a matter of timing it exactly right, and maybe luck. He said he got his in 5 minutes, the monk/ranger helping him got his in about an hour, so it can be tricky to time. We tried timing it to the brutal mauling, to the attack animation to get him pulled along in mid-swipe, but I think it was just him leaving range as I activated. We used a monk as bait, as most critters seem to prefer beating up monks.

Given the difficulties we were having, I really was beginning to think that anet had modified Breaking Charm since last I'd tried.

For the curious, as Epi said, I tamed a presearing bear awhile back (after the patches that prevented hammer/knockdowns from being a viable charm option) in an identical manner.

Last night, the bear just stayed on me, and might have tried to break charm once. When I tamed mine, the bear was chasing monk out of range as I got charm started (since skills will resolve as long as they were initiated in range, even if the target bolts) and by the time the bear realized what I was up to, I was well outside of charmbreaker range. The bear proceeded to spam charmbreaker for several seconds, before the charm resolved, and I had a new pet...

I think I named him Bragging Rights at the time.

Anyway, like epi said, the key is getting your charm initiated just as the bear leaves range, and keep it moving (breaking charm range does appear to be a good bit larger than charm animal, so it does require some work.

Best setup is making sure you have a straight shot to run in.

I posted a screenshot on our guild forums last night that could be a good reference, spatially, if you look at the radar, but I don't have th link immediately available to repost. (If someone else finds it before I'm home from work today, feel free to post)

Finally, I actually had fraps running last night... But after half an hour of trial and error, I think I was worried that stopping for a second would cause the bear to beeline back to epi to break charm xD

....plus I was a little tired

Edit: Oh, and no, you can't get a bear in the Northern Shiverpeaks. There are none outside of Yaks. It's wolves you'll find there, and unfortunately ANet doesn't like to have more than one pet per area in Prophecies... You can, however, pop outside the southern entrance to Beacon's Perch to get an early peak at the South Shiverpeaks and thus a chance to tame a bear. If you rezone enough times, one will eventually come close enough to charm without fighting those high-level baddies.

True. I did it to get one for my friend. You must have lot patience for that to get one close.... or lucky.

I'm confused on how people in factions sell their pets.
In the High End, people were selling some cat-like creatures.
Am i missing something about pets here? Is there a command to somehow give it to the other player? Or is it just service, helping someone tame a creature?
