By saying "nearby creatures" should I assume it also heals foes? Thanks!

I fail to grasp why so many people think this spell is like the superior Healing Spell to all others. And i'm playing a monk byself but i don't see the use of this spell at all.

Its pretty useful for healing balls, and for a strong quick self heal. Also if you are a total asshole heal your enemies, makes for alot of fun.

I love this skill because I can always position my self to heal only allies. It's like Heal other but you can heal multiple people and it costs the same mana.

decent for some PvE areas, but I've found that it's a cheap dump spell in PvP when your a monk and the tank banging on you is at full health anyways. In general though I'd rather use other heals spells if I'm a monk.
Also I highly recommend every healing monk try running a prot monk when you get to the desert or beyond, they are very useful and very underrated IMO.

You can buy it from the Yak's Bend skill guy or do the "Protecting Ascalon" quest that you get from Grazden the Protector

The only reason this skill would be useful to you is if you are good at positioning yourself so that you only heal allies, like many have said already. However, the best use for this skill would be to heal minions. As a minion master, after every battle you can keep all your minions alive with this skill better than all others. Verata's sacrifice has too long of a recharge, and blood of the master heals barely over half of what this skill heals at the cost of 10% hp.

People still question my reasoing when they see me casting this spell in PvE and often inform me, believing I don't already know, that the spell will also heal enemies.
The fact is that, imo, it is the best multi-functional self heal a monk can have and it's attainable VERY early in the game.
As stated by others, I use it to heal minions and pets and I am DEADLY accurate with it when it comes to using it to healing my Tanks and not the foes they're fighting.
This is just a fun heal that keeps you on your toes and gives you a challenge when trying to use it in ways that will only benefit your own team. Anything that gets me off the backlines and involved in the heart of the action adds a certain fun factor to playing Monk that you can't find just hanging back and healing from afar.

Not so useful when the foes come right to you, which normally happens to me.

Does this work on spirits as well? I'm curious to know if it would be feasible to use this to keep Ritualist spirits alive and well for a useful amount of time.

Last I checked, Ritualist and Ranger spirits are unaffected by any forms of healing other than skills that specifically address them. With the official release looming, I can not vouch for that being the case in the future, but I highly doubt they'll change it.

Best thing about this spell is monk humilations. You leave the monk alive last, bodyblock him, beat on him, and then just before he dies, Heal Area. gg.

sorry for double post, but more effective is simple rof+prot spirit. (assuming you have divine boon on) is the same energy, heals for almost as much, both have 1/4 cast, and the inherant effect of preventing dmg.
Cant see a reason for using ANY heal spells in gvg on a monk (if ur running emo, then fair enough) as u should be running boon prot.
