I see people suggesting this for pvp monk builds. I don't understand why it's worthwhile. It has a fairly lengthy 1 second cast time (too long to get in and stop a spike), short duration (5s, 6 w/20% enchant mod), and requires a significant investment into protection to get a reasonable % out of it. So what am I missing?

I've moved away from being a healer monk to a boon protector and I was wondering if this spell stacks?
I carry Aegis with me for the 50% chance to miss and if I put Gaurdian on top of that does it increase to 94% chance to miss?
If it doesn't I suppose Shielding Hands can go back into my skill bar.

afaik it stacks like other things, (if your gaurdian evades 50%) then its a 75% evade chance... 50% of the 50% chance to hit after aegis.

btw, aegis is going to hurt your energy badly on a boon prot.

Aegis gives you 50% to "block" attacks. Guardian gives you, depending how high your Protection Prayer is but for this post, 50% to "block" attacks.

50%+(100-50)=75%.

75% to "block" attacks.

With Reversal of Fortune and Mend Ailment, I find that this skill is another prot monk essential. It makes a perfect combo with Contemplation of Purity and although it's slightly worse than Distortion, it can be used on allies as well as giving Divine Favor healing.

Well, I thank God whenever I see a Boon-Prot using guardian. It begs "interrupt me with Power Block you happy Mesmer over there", so....I do.

I dunno, the 1 second cast time makes it hard to abuse well, and you target is probably gone by the time you cast it anyways.

Your running around trying to reduce pressure, not spike damage. You can direct heal with sod of rof... or apply guardian. Big heal and damage reduction for 6s, the casting time is vunerable but if they dont interrupt that they will probably be taking your energy management. Perfectly reasonable skill. Talking about how shutdown mesmers rolf all over monks is hardly a reason to disregard it. If it had a 2s casting time i might agree - but it doesnt.

Exactly.

The actual percentage chance it gives to block also appears to be 2% greater than stated in the description at any attribute level. Not a huge amount, but nice all the same.

I recently moved into active prot and find it to be a much more useful skill than when i first looked at it with noob eyes 7 months ago.

And answering someones point above, it can only be bought, making it a unique skill in that its not available from any quest yet can be bought at the ascalon city skill trainer.
