Default The new update

So...what did everyone think about it? From a purely Mesmer perspective.

So, it's quite obvious E-Surging got nerfed. From my perspective, I love it. Now, call it non-Mesmer spirit, or whatever, but I'm tired of seeing dull, boring Surgers around (the Mesmer profession is about class, not pressing a bunch of key combinations mindlessly). Power Spike is cool now, and...that's pretty much all there is about the Mesmer update

So, what are everyone else's opinions?

Well, decrease in energy denial (from 10 to 8) doesn't change much. It just gives to the target a few more seconds before being out-of-mana.

Thus, time needed to reduce target's energy to 0 simply got a bit longer, so what ?It nerfs nothing at all. To nerf eDenial, ANet needs to change cost/recharge time ratio of skills.

Right now, uninterruptible casting of eSurge+eBurn+SoW+Shame costs 80 energy/minute with a 20% recharge bonus. Mesmers recover the same amount of energy per minute. This hasn't been changed, so the (classic) eSurge build is still valid.

I think they went too light on E-Surge, and nerfed the wrong thing. Like an above poster... Cost and Recharge needed to be looked at, not actual energy loss.

So in other words, you guys suggesting that they should nerf the denial skills more so that nobody will bother to use them anymore?

I think the slight nerf is good enough to balance the skills and not send them to the trash bin.

I'm pretty happy with the Mantra of Recovery buff, and the powerspike buff.

I think I'll try an interrupt build with MoR now instead of Power Block....

while edenial burn-surge builds are still viable, they have been made less effective, which will reduce their usage.

MoR/interrupt builds are looking mighty nice now, especially when interrupts arent the only thing that MoR can boost in effectiveness. non-air mesmer spamway has gotten a huge boost, with flare/ice spear/daggers now doing more damage and the attunements getting reduced recharge, I think teams of these guys will start showing up in arenas again. In general, im impressed with the update, and I think it will create some more originality in this class.

this was a simple touch up, not an annihilation of a build; you want an annihilated build go play a damned fire ele in pve...or even compare an old MM to a new MM, and be damned happy they didnt kill our E Surgers completely, personally i dont use E Surge much though i prefer Stolen Speed + mass casting of interrupts such as Power Spike, Power leak, Ect. Ect.

Er... Surge didn't get nerfed. It got buffed. Same with Burn. It's so easy to run the nrg of some1 to 0 (be4 and after the update) that you end up wasting your Surge/Burns to keep their nrg at 0. If they have 5 nrg and you use the old Surge -> 40 dam. If they have 5 nrg and you use the new Surge -> 50 dam. And I always Wrack them with Surge builds anyway... so I am more than happy with the new update. I know I am enjoying the damage buff a ton. 2 nrg less per burn is never an issue... Get over it. If you think 2 nrg a burn will make or break Surge/Burn, all I can say is "meh."
