(SUGESTION) Minnion targetting: does it need to be so dificult?
Hello everybody
I´ve been looking at this forum for support since december, but decided to sign only now..
I Have sent a suggestion to ANet regarding Minnion targeting, and they gently asked me to post it on fan sites.. (honestly, don´t think they have read my mail, but whatever..)
I hope you read my suggestions, and maybe keep this thread up, so there´s a chance they can read it (or maybe post it somewhere else..)
ok, the mail was the following:
"Hello
This is not one more post of an angry minnion master, upset by the changes you have done to the 'minnion master' way of playing (in fact, I AM one of those, and would like to know why you did such a change on a very nice 'way to play')
Whinnings apart, i have a sugestion: since minnion targeting is a very difficult task to do (involves a lot of clicking, no shortcuts, the minnions DO NOT appear when we hold 'alt' or 'ctrl', etc, why don´t you improve the minnions selection?
As a former minnion master, i have changed my style to minion bomber, with death nova and other skills.. But targeting the minnions to cast death nova on them is a very tedious task, wich involves knowing WHERE the minnion (or pair of minnions) will grow from, clicking each of them individually (without any keybord binds, or keys we press to know where and how many they are)
I have some different suggestions on this matter:
1)Improve the 'minnion interface'. You did a great job by placing a 'minnion counter' on the hex/enchantment place. Why don´t make it even more usefull by changing it to a clickable interface, where, by clicking on the 'minnion counter' icon, we select one of the minnions under our control? That would be an impressive improvement to the interface
2)Making the minnions appear when we hold the Alt key. They´re our allies, aren´t them? Why they don´t deserve to appear when we hold this keys?
3)Placing new hot-key options (like Select nearest minnion/spirit, and next minnion/spirit): yes, it can work for ritualists to, since it´s required that they keep track of theyre spirits..
4)Placing a clickable icon for every kind of minnion the MM is controlling. THAT would be the best of all the sollutions.. We would be REAL minnion masters, knowing what our little (REALLY LITTLE since 4/27th) army is, and what minnions do we need to pull from that fresh corpse that just popped up. The only inconvenience would be in battles where many enchants/hexes/conditions/etc are in place.. That would make the necromancer interface a bit confused.
Well, i hope my suggestions are, at list, a thing to think about.. In my opinion, the Minion master community would really get happy with those features, and it wouldn´t bring any imbalance to the game, only make it more STRATEGICAL (instead of mindless pointing and clicking-that´s what we have to do, and search minnions on the screen IS NOT a nice thing to do..)

I have an idea : we should ask A.net to divide the number of minions we can have by 2 so that targeting them would be easyer

I totally agree with asking developers to provide way to be able to select your minions without having to run around trying to find them in the midst of a heated battle.

well, anet wanted to nerf mm's, and they did, and i doubt they will make any improvements on them. think about it, they'll prlly come up wit some bs answer, "well if u easily target minions, u cud easily bomb wit death nova, and dat wud be totally unfair for non mm players." psh, i dun like anet no more, first they nerf putrid spam (ill agree tho, dat wuz alittle bit unfair) now the mm way of life?!?! jus wait, next they'll nerf battery, ss, minions bombs..............

Well, my suggestion isn´t intended to give MM more power, 1337ness, justthink it would help the GAME MECHANICS to work the way, IMHO, THEY wanted it to work (i mean, more strategy and skill then pointing and clicking..)
And else, if a monk can use shortcuts to heal/buff they´re friends, why can´t I have too?

It's not really a joke : sure it would help but A.net just nerfed the MM.. I don't think they're going to give us something which will make us more powerful.

seriously if you think you are a worthy MM player you would see it isnt as big of a downgrade as it might look
but ye the targetting issue wont unballance anything, because i dont see that as the kind of "skill" this game is about, it aint counterstrike. and it would only be a small patch to make minions pop up i figure =)

IMO in ANETS minds it would unbalance the game if you could direct target any minion you wanted to put any enchant on you wanted eaisly. The way it is now it's very hard to get enchants on all your minions while in a battle. If you could direct target them...like if they showed up in the party window as allies (AND I WISH THEY DID) you could rip out enchants as needed very eaisly. So Death Nova would be killer, not to mention what could be done with some of the other enchants.
The targeting system in this game is just absolutely horrid. You need to be able to designate 2 or 3 priority targets for yourself so that you can jump between them quickly. How much more effective would you be if you could quick swap between mulltiple target that are on different ends of the battle field. It would really help you watch an oppent so that you could stop the use of a key skill.

@megaforcetkd, MM best skill before 27/4 is useless now and you can't hold more then 10 minions + BoTM sacs much more...
It would have been much better if they did one of those things and not all of them at the same time.
Back on topic:
I completely agree, minion targetting needs to be improved...
My suggestion about this: if you cast death nova while targetting a foe the closest minion get's enchanted with it... (but making it so that it always enchant a random minion if you weren't targetting a allie would be a great improvement anyway)

well, think about it. if u cud easily target minions by pressing a key o sumthin, dn wud be waaaaay spammable. plus, wit 16 death, it does major dmg. anet will obviously see that as an "imbalance" cuz its basically the putrid spam. cept it can move. i highly doubt they'll change it imo, tho it wud be nice........
and as fo c33sh's comment, it was being able to hold that 20-30 minions army that separated the nobbs from the l33t playerz. now, anyone can be mm, so its gunna be waaaay easier to find one, therefore putting us l33t ones out of a job........ very depressing.

Besides, even if the Death Nova could be spammed, the poison won't stack on to each other. Sure, there may be more chance of hitting each player with poison, but it's not really as broken as is may seem.
For those of you who believe targeting of your minions would enable you to spam skills on them, what's stopping the players from doing so right now? Lazyness, Ineffectiveness. Meh.

well, combined wit spells like fragility, virulence (even tho dude already poisoned) and plague sending, cud make fo one helluva condition build. actually, sounds like it may work, now i mus try........
