Ranger Quickshot fo' PvP v2.0
What's going on guys? Remember this? Well, times have changed and time has also called for an updated build. Thanks for clicking on this link and the link to the old build, now dubbed v1.0. I hope you enjoy reading this guide as I had making it. Let's get to the build, and strategy...
Ranger Quickshot fo' PvP v2.0
Profession: Ranger/* Uses just ranger skills.
Type: General PvP
Category: Damage Dealer
Equipment
-Armor
In my opinion, you can never lose with druids. Any ranger armor can be used with this build. I've been toying around with Scouts armor lately because you'll be using an preperation, RTW, for most of the battles.
Remember, the best type of armor is kind that YOU wear!
-Weapons
My Choice weapon
Zealous Flatbow of Defense
Piercing Damage 15-28 req. 9
+15% damage while health is above 50
+1 energy per hit/-1 energy regeneration
+5 Armor
Customized for Teh Pokemon Master
The Zealous mod does wondrous things for this build. If you do use the zealous mod, the build can keep going and going and going... you'll see later in this guide. Vampiric helps too, but you will run out of energy faster than you would a zealous bow string.
Attributes
Note: You must have all 200 available attribute points. You must complete the 2, 15 attribute quests, for Factions and/or Prophecies.
Beast Mastery: 8 = 7 + 1 (Minor Rune of Beast Mastery)
Expertise: 13 = 10 + 3 (Superior Rune of Expertise)
Wilderness Survival: 10 = 9 + 1 (Minor Rune of Wilderness Survival)
Marksmanship: 14 = 10 + 1 (Archer's Mask) + 3 (Superior Rune of Marksmanship
Skills
Here are the skills that make up the build. Listed are details on each skill.
Quickshot: 5 energy, 1 sec. cast time, 1 sec. recharge. Elite Bow Attack. Shoot an arrow that moves twice as fast. (No Attribute)
Dualshot: 10 energy, N/A cast time, 7 sec. recharge. Bow Attack. Shoot two arrows simultaneously at target foe. These arrows do 25% less damage. (No Attribute)
Read The Wind: 5 energy, 2 sec. cast time, 12 sec. recharge. Preperation. For 24 seconds your arrows move twice as fast and deal __ extra damage. (Marksmanship)
Tiger's Fury: 10 energy, N/A cast time, 10 sec. recharge. Stance. All your non-attack skills are disabled for 5 seconds. For __ seconds you attack 33% faster. (Beast Mastery)
What you have just read is the basis of this build. The rest of the skills determine your goal and may change according to your playstyle.
Optional Skills
Distracting Shot
Favorable Winds*
Needling Shot
Hunter's Shot
Whirling Defense*
Troll Unguent*
Savage Shot
Winnowing
Resurrection Signet*
etc.
*My skills of choice.
For the strategy, lets assume that I use my choice skills, attributes, armor, and weapons.
Summary: A decent build. Sturdy, strong enough to take on anything. Self defense, whirling defense, and healing, troll unguent, don't hurt. Used for, you guessed it, damage dealing. So, how does this build work? Using the sheer power of the bow and the marksmanship attribute you can achieve a good amount of damage with each hit. Tiger's Fury increases the DPS, while Favorable Winds and RTW increase damage and lessen the flight time. When all these factors are mixed together, you get one hell of a machinegunner.
Assuming Favorable Winds, RTW, and Tiger's Fury are all active. Weapon used is the bow of choice. Armor etc. Quickshot and Dualshot are NOT used.
On 60 AL: 90-110 Damage per second. Monks/Mesmers/Elementalists/Some Rangers
On 80 AL: 70-90 Damage per second. Warriors/Some Rangers
On 100 AL: 50-70 Damage per second. Warrior using buff or Elementalist Earth skills.
These numbers are pretty impressive. Try it for yourself now.
But wait, I didn't tell you how to effectively use the build.
Random Arena Strategy and Game:
You have all your factors set and and you're ready to go. Bow, check. Skills, check. Res Sig, check. Brain, check. You press the mission button and the timer starts. Oh noes! You have a massive urge to pee! Go do it now! Come on 5 more seconds... Good, you made it. Make sure before each battle you are ready to fight with no interruptions or telephones. Many people do not like their team mates to be Away from the Keyboard (AFK) during a fight.
In the arena. Set up your base, plant favorable winds, and ding up Read the Wind. The enemy comes charging! 1 warrior, 1 monk, 1 elementalist, and 1 mesmer. Who do you attack first? Any of the softies would be fine. Only attack warrior if you need to. Now your attacking your target but quickshot and dualshot are doing nothing! You do this.
Tiger's Fury/Dualshot ---> Quickshot ---> Normal shot ---> Quickshot ---> Tiger's Fury/Normal shot ---> Quickshot ---> Dualshot.
Dualshot has received a longer recharge time in the last update. I still use it however. You enemy is dead before you know it! Great job. Oh crap, a warrior is coming straight after you. He just found out you are the damage dealer. Hit whirling defense! You are safe for 18 seconds. 1 of 2 things will happen: the warrior will choose another target, or the warrior stays with you until you are dead! The latter of the latter will never ever happen. Use Troll Unguent before Whirling defense times out. Party Member dead! Use res sig. Bam, your healer is back alive and kicking. You defeat the warrior and you gain 25 faction! Way to go.
You travel back to Random Arena District 1
What a great battle. This build is easy to use, a caveman could do it. Healing , defense and damage dealing all come together. In variations of this build, one may lead towards interruption more and add distracting and savage shot. One may use more spirits such as winnowing and predatory season. Whatever you want to accomplish is in your hand.
*camera pans out of the arena*
Notes and Concerns:
Pros:
-Lots of damge
-Can do very well on it's own. Your team mates do not affect the performance of this build.
-Fun and easy.
Cons:
-Only Physical damage. Easily Blocked.
-Energy Eater.
-Beware of Spiteful Spirit/Empathy/Price of Failer/etc. Since you attack more often than the average ranger, the skills listed would kill you in a faster time. Be very cautious.
I hope you enjoy playing the build and kicking ass. Good luck to all who try and perform their best.

I use this damage build
WS = 14 (10 + 3 +1)
Exp = 12 (10 + 2)
Mark = 12 (11 + 1)
Poisoner's Ascalon Bow of Fortitude (Recurve Type - Mineral Springs)
15%^50
+29 health (couldn't afford a 'perfect' mod)
Extends poison duration by 33%
Customized
Quick Shot {E}
Savage Shot
Apply Poison
Troll Unguent
Lightning Reflexes
Whirling Defense
Favorable Winds
Rebirth
I like to get set up just out of aggro and get favorable winds up then apply poison. Hit the first enemy of the group and then get lightning up for the attack boost, then quick shot --> next enemy --> quick shot --> next
make sure to keep apply poison up (or your prep of choice) use whirling d if they aggro you instead of the spirit and heal / res as necessary
I prefer the recurve for the fast flight times and fairly quick reload, timed correctly with Favorable winds and quick shot you can get a fast refire rate going. I like spamming poison / choking gas / fire on as many as possible so that would be my main point that this build is for hitting all members of a group ASAP not just plinking away at a single target.

They have fixed the problem in an update long time ago, not sure which.
I've tested the numbers. You may see for yourself.

Yeah I just tested them, they seem to stack.
How'd you get those DPS numbers though? You're not shooting QS once a second. And normal shot + QS takes a lot longer. The damage per shot isn't amazing.

Ive actually never used moves the made my attacks go faster. And ive always despised flatbows so i never needed fast shots. How does shooting faster affect your damage?
And if making ur shots faster is so important, what about Called Shot in between your quick shot?
Called Shot :: Shoot an arrow that moves 3 times faster than normal and cannot be blocked or evaded. Energy 5 Cast 0 Recharge 3
Quick Shot :: Shoot an arrow that moves twice as fast. Energy 5 Cast 1 Recharge 1
I don't see the difference and isn't called shot way better than quick shot...an eilte?
I seriously dont see the advantages to shooting faster.

It's "Shoot an Arrow twice as fast" not "Shoot an arrow that moves twice as fast." Getting a shot off in 1 second is much different than taking 2 seconds to get a shot off, regardless of arrow speed.

With mask switching you could change out RtW for a fairly powerful kindle. I think at WS 13 (13 is from a quick mask switch) it will add 21 or 22. That would give you elemental damage and improve DPS, but it would cost you some arrow speed. If you keep FW in your build it shouldn't hurt too much.

The damage bonus from RtW ignores armor...where kinde doesn't.

But that can be a good thing. If I understand the way kindle works, it converts your arrow's damage to fire, and adds another packet of fire damage as the bonus for kindle. For Warriors, the elemental damage means you're against 80 AL instead of 100, and it reduces damage for each packet, but it should still be an improvement over the +10 that Rtw gives you. You do 100% damage to 60 AL targets. The only class that gives you trouble with elemental damage would be other rangers since they have 100 AL vs. elemental damage. From what I can tell, the only way RtW would be better is if it made your arrow's base damage and the bonus damage ignore armor.
I tested each prep against the relevant armors. Against warrior armor, a WS 14 kindle had me doing 30-53 damage. With RtW the damage range was 21-36.
Against 60AL kindle had a range of 44-76 damage per arrow. RtW was 29-63.
I won't argue that kindle is better than RtW. RtW is great if you've got orders going. But if you have to depend on yourself for damage buffs, kindle wins.

I've played around with some quickshot builds, but have found you're going to need 13 expertise (the break point at which 5 energy costs are only 2) to keep up with the attacks for a sustained period of time.

I'm running a variation of this build right now.
Basically:
Favourable Winds
Kindle Arrows
Conjure Fire
Quick Shot
Tiger's Fury
Distracting Shot
Needling Shot
Resurrection Signet
I'm running 3 Superior Runes, ouch I know, it's just a test for now though. Heck, I'm considering adding in that last WS Sup rune.
TF is at 8 seconds, NS is at 19. Conjure is at 8, Kindle is at 18.
So far, in most situations, the damage is pretty good, especially once you get to <50% target health. Then you alternate QS and NS for some truly quick damage. This is all in RA for now, so it's meant to be taken as such, but it seems to work well.
