My Ineptitude Arena Build
Ineptitude has long been one of my favorite mesmer skills and with the recent buff I've been using it to great success in the arenas. Here's the build:
Attributes:
Fast Cast 8+1
Illusion 12+3+1
Domination 7+1
Inspiration 8+1
Skills:
Clumsiness (97 damage at 16 illusion on attack)
Ineptitude (142 damage at 16 illusion on attack)
Conjure Phantasm (Degen is always good for putting pressure on)
Ether Feast (Self heal, very neccessary since the other team is gonna want to put you in the ground fast)
Blackout (5 second shutdown at 8 dom, great for harassing casters and stopping resses)
Drain Enchantment (Get rid of those annoying enchants and recover some energy)
Diversion (35 Second skill disable at 8 dom also useful for harassing casters)
This build excels against warriors which are always common in arenas and are usually my first target, seeing as they are almost always right in my face. Against a single war I draw them back away from their team and unleash ineptitude and clumsiness, this is usually enough to outright kill any frenzy user. If they are still alive I follow up with a quick diversion, 90% of the time they will try to use a heal after losing that much health. At this point they usually try to run, phantasm is usually all it takes to finish them. This method works equally well on most rangers, casters however can sometimes pose a problem. Harassment with conjure, diversion, and blackout is about all you can do here, watch for careless casters mindlessly wanding things, clumsiness and ineptitude will quickly teach them a lesson. Against monks i throw diversion on and cover with conjure, usually they will not cast with diversion up, if so as diversion is about to end I follow with blackout and repeat as neccessary til the monk is worn down.
Let me know your thoughts on this build

Clumsiness + Ineptitude + frenzy warrior is the most beautiful thing in Tyria, and for that reason alone I approve. Only thing I'd like to see in this build would be distortion, but I'm not sure what to remove for it... also, some energy management would go a long way. Lotta quick-casted stuff is going to drain you fast, maybe spirit of failure?

I tried distortion in an earlier version of this build and i found myself using it very little since proper maneuvering and use of terrain along with ineptitudes blinding was causing me to take very few hits. What usually kills me is degen from other mesmers and necros. As for the suggestion of Spirit I'll give it a shot see how it goes maybe dropping it on a secondary target since I usually try to drop my target fast before they can be healed it would seem somewhat redundant on the target im fighting.

If degen is a serious problem, I'd actually advise going Me/Mo and bringing holy veil... seriously slows their hexes, is an adequate removal, costs little, no stat points required, hard to interrupt... yeah, its handy

I would advise to bring along Epidemic. It costs only 10 now, and warriors tend to come in tight squads as they pressure one target, so Epidemic works often in spreading blindness.

Nice
When I saw the new numbers on ineptitude, I realized it wouldn't be long before I saw one of these, and yours seems pretty solid. While energy management may become a problem, you can rest assured that alot of builds in RA use enchantments. I'd like to test this out for my self when I get the chance.

I was testing some warrior builds in Random Areans last night and came across some mesmer running something similar (maybe it was you I dont know). Anyway I was the only warrior on the team so naturally they were targeting me. The first match I got pawned pretty bad but the next time we met I played the waiting game a little and they soon started to run out of energy.
Great build but my advice would be: ok you will kill lots of gung ho wammos but I suggest investing into a bit more energy management for the crafty warriors and rangers who will let you burn your energy low.

hahaha actually i tried arcane echoed ineptitude it was so mean when it worked out but i found i could do nothing more than conjure on casters, and just got back from a run in arenas holy veil was working great.
Energy management is bad in prolonged battles but drain enchant seems to come through for me quite often, i get lucky with fast recharges with my 20% rockmolder i geuss, more energy management would be nice but i dont really see anything i can drop.

If they are noob warriors, that is. Being warrior at my primary, if I am hexed by Spirit of Failure while blinded, I won't attack until I'm cured. As will do any clever warrior.

Quite agree - but that still takes you out of the game for a few secs. As for PvE, the AI makes it a very valid tactic

spirit of failure + distortion = loveliness indeed
ok, here's my version of it:
clumsiness
ineptitude
phantom pain
shatter delusions
spirit of failure
distortion
ether feast
granted, you need someone else to be anti-caster but seeing the damage spike from phantom pain+clumsiness+ineptitude+shatter delusions right after they attack is worth a million bux
