Default Can't find a profession that suits me...

I've been a Warrior for almost 700 hours now and I want something else. I've been trying out a Monk but that just don't seem to be my thing... I was going to make him a 55hp monk just for UW farming but, I mean, farming is OK but making a character just for farming... So, I deleted him too.
I had a R/Mo20 just for trapping in UW but that gets bored really fast so I deleted that one in a couple of weeks. I started a couple of other characters but didn't get to lvl5... I kept deleting them (Ele, Necro, Monk)
When I start a new character I am like: "Oh, I will make this character lvl20 fast and do some cool stuff with it" but then, when I'm playing with it I get bored and want to delete him because I am wasting time...

Of all the professions you have played, which one was the one that you enjoyed playing the most?

I think part of your problem is that you are full of a lot of "just"s.

You said you made a monk just to farm, but got bored with that, and a ranger just to trap.

Make a character and play through. You learn a lot of the ins and outs of the play and what the character is capable of. Then you can go and contribute to a team for those specific purpose builds, but you will have the knowledge of the character to do other things with them as well.

Any single purpose build/character will always get boring after a while.

Don't want to go through the grid? Well I don't know what to tell you. After I finished my first character, I started the others and do the grind to learn them. My general habit is to fight through to beacons then get a run to droks. Buy armor, start back at beacons, do all the missions and quests all the way to amnoon. Then I get a desert tour and then fight through all the missions and quests all the way through to the end of the game.

Doing it this way helps me to get unlocks, experience and an idea of what I like and dislike about the character and their skills. It also helps to make you a better player when playing those specific builds.

When you get bored of doing one thing, change chars and try some other things. Help out some guildies with the things they need help with. Work on things like Tombs, UW, Fissure, SF with your guild with more than just the "accepted" party and build for that area.

For starters don't use a cookie cutter builds, make up your own.

There is more to this game than farming the underworld.

Take your time, play the game.

I agree with you, a trapping ranger is boring, on the other hand a interupting skill based ranger looking over the battle field and seeing something going into a casting stance and "pow", thats one meteor shower your not getting off, can be very challenging and rewarding.

Now if you really want a challenge, you really want plat, take that warrior and train yourself for a droks run, the good ones get 15k per run. Even then, after a few hundred runs that willl get boring also.

Here is what I suggest you do. Take your current character and go back to ascalon, play all those missions and bonuses you skipped, don't run any where, just slow down and play the story mode of the game.

If you still can't enjoy the game, then ask your sellf "Why am I playing this game, what are my goals, and is this the type of game that will allow me to acchieve thos goals?"

If all you are looking for is the uber godly stuff, then this might not be the game for you, although my ranger has some "greens", the rest of my character are doing fine with collector weapons. My goal is to have fun, I enjoy doing the missions with a good PUG group, or even an mediocre PUG group, or playing the advanced, like the tombs, areas with my guild.

My brother likes taking his ranger into a random arena, you can try that, maybe PvP is more to you liking.

Starting out I made an Elementalist was ok until I made a Ranger. I loved being a ranger and have around 500+ hours. Than I made a monk it got old doing quests and missions so I delted him. Made a Necro for taint/orders and any other build for a Necro. Seems I only play monk is during GVG/HOH or any PVP. Sparks my interest than running one though PVE.

Monk and Ranger are definitely my favorites. And like the others said, don't limit yourself to one build. You can change your character around constantly for different purposes, and that makes it a lot more enjoyable.

I can't really improve on what's been said before, so I'll just add my agreement. The best way to find a character to enjoy is to play with it for a while, and don't just rely on one build. All my characters must have a good half dozen builds I've got running for them, and I switch between them depending on what I'm in the mood for at the time (taking into account where I'm going of course).

My personal favourite? Mesmer, hands down. It was my first, and it's also the one I find most rewarding. Sure my Monk can keep the team going against the odds, and sure my Ranger can pull off some nice moments as well, but I find it the most rewarding experience to succeed with my Mesmer. It's not for everyone though, because you really need to understand the game in order to do well with it. The same can be said for the other classes, but I think it's most apparent with the Mesmer.

i have 1 character of each, and i love to play them all with the exeption of ele, which i find to be horribly boring. I definately have the most fun playing casters though. Monk is really fun when you have an aggro happy tank that you cast unyielding aura on, they tend to learn fast that way.

Elementalist + Mesmer for me. I like positioning for Wards, while getting that Conundrumed spell Blocked.

My two favorites are necro and ranger - I dont trap with my ranger either, I either use barrage, poision arrow, or melundras arrows - sometimes i bring the pet and skills for it, and sometimes i don't. My suggestion is going with just about any character and changing your build around for something different, that way it never gets boring

Keep in mind, if you plan to get factions, Assasin and Ritualist!!

I enjoy playing every profession, each has it's own speacial unique playstyle. I play a Necro and a Monk for PvE, simply because their very high in demand and everyone needs them.

But then again, RPG games arn't for everyone whose trying to get fast paced action entertainment...play the game for entertainment ^.^, thats the whole point why you spent 50 dollars on it

They can be fun if you are setup to be a combat trapper. The standard UW Spirit A,B,C trap spammers are pretty boring tho, I agree.

Personally:
PvE: I perfer my ranger and my monk.
PvP: My mesmer and my warrior.

I agree with what was said about not doing cookie-cutters, one of the biggest advantages PvE has over PvP is the ability to pull crazy builds out of your ass and have them actually do decently.

Why delete your characters? You have 4 slots (3 if you PvP). Play one character one day and another another day. I have a lvl20 W/Mo (my first obviously and i still use it for farmign and running guildies) and N/R (R to unlock skills will change it when i get what i need) and an E/Me and a R/Me for PvP. The secondaries for my second PvE characters were to unlcok the skills i needed for PvP.

I don't get bored because i can farm, PvP, and just play missions with low level guildies.

Sure i got bored of the E/Me but did i delete it? NO! I will play in in a few days when i fancy it again. If i had deleted it i wouldn't bother to start it again but to go back to it is different!

Yep.

My mate got Guild Wars, and when he decided he didn't like it he gave me his account. So I have one of each profession, another Ranger (<3) and a PvP. Keeps me occupied.

Of course my comments didn't help you at all. But try and stick to a profession, coz I get bored of Ascalon REALLY quickly, so getting out of it and further through the game makes it better. Also, when you get further through the game, teams need better team-work and you really find out whether you like that profession or not.

Currently my two toons are R/Me and Me/(N, Mo, E). I have had one of each primary ascended but stuck with these two. I am going to start a warrior soon with a new concept that I have and can't wait to try ritualist and assassin.

If you want something really different, in the meaning of original, I suggest mesmer. For me, its cool to play one. They're relatively strong when you know how to use your skills.

My favorite professions are Ranger and Necro.
Ranger because they can do so much no matter what their secondary is, and Necro because FoC and Desecrate Enchantments are fun to spike, but don't forget about MM.

Necro is definitely my favorite, but I also enjoy playing as mesmer and ranger. I dunno, there's just something fun about exploiting corpses...
