My advice: SV the monk. Safety margin and consistency > speed kills when Grasping Darknesses are concerned. When I use SV on the monk, Graspings still last less than 15 seconds for all 3 groups. How much time can you reasonably shave off 15 seconds to make the risk of losing the monk (and probably the UW run) worthwhile?

reason i would take suffering (or shadow of fear, cuz we're not worried about suffering's dmg, and if used correctly sof saves u energy and doesn't slow ur targets down! also has a fast recharge):
when monk can only aggro 3-5 smites, just slap suffering/sof on the group once they're all clustered, wait for em all to smite (2 seconds per smite, or just cast after 4/5 have smited because the final one is already in the process of smiting at this point and can't get ur ss.. assuming u dont ss one w/ suffering still on it ) then use ur echo ss to whip em bfore smite hex can recharge. along w/ desecrate if u wanna b sure not to let em recharge, which is unnecessary. just put a third ss on em (cross ur fingers for a fast recharge, u will most likely have one) if u can, or cast suffering as a cover if u got a fast recharge (this is where sof shines, as it'll have recharged ages ago)
i don't think signet of weariness is any good seeing as it's only really the same as two or so smite attacks on the monk, and when the monk is taking as many attack as they are, it gets lost in the sea of -3's
