W/Mo, W/* Hammer advice wanted
I need a good build for either a straight warrior hammer build or a Warrior/Monk hammer build. I've tried all sorts of combinations by now, but can't seem to get a stable build. I'm curious as to whether or not any body could point me in the right direction. I'm mainly interested in going into Grenth's footprints and soloing ettins/trolls, which may of course require two different builds. So perhaps just a well rounded hammer warrior who can put out some damage, and take on a few guys at once. The hammer I'm trying to work with is Malinon's malign hammer, which seems pretty decent.
Anyway, any help is appriciated and thanx in advanced!
(I've done a bit of research on the forums, not much in the way of w/mo hammer builds, so please dont direct me to the search engine, :P )

Do people farm/solo with hammers? My axe farming build only uses Cyclone Axe, the rest are stances and monk skills. I don't know how that fits with a hammer plus the "spinning hammer" attack can get interrupted so is not as good as the axe. Plus you lose the shield and the armor, hit points and damage reduction it provides.

in general, hammer builds are designed to focus and take down 1 foe at a time. you also have to keep in mind the slower attack speed and the missing 16 AL and possible damage absorption from a shield. this is why there are virtually no hammer solo farm builds. i'm not saying it can't be done, because i know for a fact that it can. it's just not time effective.
with that said, 1 combo you may want to consider is counter blow + belly smash. counter blow is a good spammable kd while belly smash blinds foes in an area. also, holy strike from the smiting line is a good nuke to combo on a kd'ed opponent.

Okay, so tossing out the solo idea (I have an axe for that), what kind of build would you guys use in general? malinon's has dmg 15% while in stance, so perhaps a good start would be:
Counter Blow
Belly Smash
Gladiators Defense
What about actually utilizing some monk smiting skills? Strength of honor adds to dmg, but it's an enchant. So i could also toss in balthazar's aura to help with energy plus adrenaline.
Counter Blow
Belly Smash
Gladiators Defense
strength of honor
balthazar's spirit
More protection may be needed, what if i used disciplined stance and "Watch Yourself!"? That would leave me one slot left, Healing Signet?
Counter Blow
Belly Smash
Gladiators Defense
strength of honor
balthazar's spirit
Disciplined Stance
"Watch Yourself!"
Healing Signet
Stonefist gauntlets + platemail chestpiece, leggings, boots, and helm. Maybe buy a knight leggings to help with damage reduction. Malinon's Hammer.
for runes i could use (with my budget) Major absorb, major vigor, minor/major/superior axe, minor tactics.

pretty decent build. i like how you analyzed through it. more people should be like that. anyway, on to the suggestions:
-keep in mind that defensive stances aren't the only stances in the game. ias stances like berserker stance or flurry would count as well. this solves 2 things for you. first, it activates the stance damage mod of your weapon. second, it increases your attack speed and makes up for the hammer's inherent slow speed.
-you're leaving out the key thing about hammers: the kd chain. i would fit an elite in there somewhere, either earthshaker or devastating, and add hammer bash to end the chain.
-holy strike from the smiting line is a good nuke to use on kd'ed opponents.
so, the above build you have would work fine and is a really good defensive build. for a more offense oriented build, i would probably run something like:
counter blow
belly smash
earthshaker
holy strike/hammer bash
flurry
balth spirit
watch yourself
heal/res sig

Tossing the two ideas together how about:
Counter blow
Belly smash
Earthshaker (Where do you capture this?)
Hammer Bash
Watch Yourself
dolyak Signet/bonneti's defense/balthazar's spirit
Healing Sig
Flurry
I find that when in a group, when the creatures aren't all fighting you, balthazars spirit does not replenish my energy fast enough. I suppose that depends on what im doing though, if im group farming as the tank, then i would use balthazars spirit. Bonetti's defense may be utilized instead. Where/who do you capture earthshaker from?

Wouldnt it be a good idea to swap out one of the hammer attacks and throw in aftershock. Since Earthshaer is knocking all that are arround you down then aftershock will distribute some dmg to follow. Means you cant use any monk healing but i found healing sig is enough to self heal when your in a PUG.
