Default The best Kiting build

Ok this is a Me/R build I came up with which kites really well. I call it The Greenbow.

13 Illusion (+2 Major rune, +1 mask)
10 Wilderness Survival
11 Marksmenship
2 Fast casting

Skills:

Poison Arrow, Conjure Phantasm, Distortion, Clumsiness, Read the Wind, Troll Ungent, Storm Chaser, Rez Sig

Weapons:
Flatbow of Fortitude (slot 1)
Shortbow of Fortitude (slot 2)

Usage:

Take out Flatbow and use Read the Wind. Once enemies are within 85' range immediately use Poison Arrow and Conjure Phantasm in quick succession for -9 HP degen per second. Do this with as many foes as you can before they get closer. Use Distortion to prevent interrupts from enemy rangers at this range.
Once enemies are within combat range, take out Shortbow by pressing F2 for extra damage but shorter range and keep RTW on.

Usually after poisoning and hexing everyone for -9 HP per second a warrior is likely to come after you. Simply run and use Clumsiness every few seconds or Distortion whenever they come within striking distance (sprint warriors). But keep them poisoned/hexed. This is known as kiting. Make sure that when the warrior chases you that you can isolate him from any healing monks. Over time they will die. Or for a quick finish, when they have like 100 HP left quickly use Clumsiness and turn around and shoot them with Shortbow at point blank range for 100+ dmg in a blink of an eye.

If you get ganged or you're drawing too much heat, use Storm chaser+Distortion to get the hell out of the combat zone and use Troll Ungent.

If played right you should be alternating between bows (Flat for sniping, Short for combat) and always be on the outskirts of the combat zone and never within reach of actual dmg as well as doing -9 HP degens to everyone while adding Clumsiness to the fray and either dodging projectiles or use Distortion as a shield.

Dodging projectiles is a trick that can save you precious Distortion mana. When arrows/stone daggers/ele projectiles are coming towards you simply make sure you are about 40' away from the foe and run up and down in a direction perpendicular to the travel of the projectile. This way you should be able to dodge 80% of all projectiles without having to invest in some defense skill.

Strengths: All classes especially warriors.

Weaknesses: Condition removal, Hex removal, Hexes.

Uses: Anti-melee, Condition heavy, Consistent dmg, Direct dmg (ignores armor), Flag runner, Health degen/dotting, Hex heavy, Multi-Purpose, Faction farming, general farming, soloing.

Overall the Greenbow build is extremely fun to play and although lacks armor, if played right more than makes up for it with its ninja-like evasion skills. It's similar to playing Counter-Strike almost.

If you want a good kiting build just make a ranger using the skill Crippling shot...

I've tried to use ranger as a base however with a measly 9 seconds Phantasm, 60+ dmg for Clumsiness and -2 mana per Distortion it didn't work as effectively. Whereas reversing the roles meant that the -9 degen lasted much longer as well as having a suprise element of being Mesmer.

Besides, Mesmers are the best primary for luring warriors in the arenas. Rangers are low on the "To-Kill" priority down there with Warriors.

I was considering Crippling Shot and Pin Down too for this build. However Crippling is an Elite therefore conflicting with Posion Arrow. Apply Poison cost too much energy and lacked the flexibility of Poison Arrow making it bad for kiting. Pin Down cost too much energy as well. Also Crippling Shot doesn't give HP degen and to kite you need a good amount of degen.

Also I decide to mix the HP degen by using 1 hex and 1 condition. That way if the condition is removed that only reduces half the degens and also with only 1 condition and vice versa, Mend Ailment won't get the 70 or so HP bonus it would get if there were 2 conditions.

Overall, with the entire thing worked out on paper like a maths equation, this is what I believe to be the best kiting build possible, the Greenbow.

Ethereal's recharge is not cool. Imagined costs more but can actually be used again (ethereal requires you to wait till all the planets are aligned on the 7th day of the 3rd month after the next ice age.... yeah, long recharge).

Can you teach me how to use 2 stances at once? Please!

Fairly sure distort only works against attacks, stone daggers still hits... but then again, I've never used or been hit significantly by daggs.

Yeah that's why I never use Burden, recharge waaaay too long. And yeah, I guess Storm Chaser + Distortion ain't such a good idea, thanks for reminding me. No, Distortion doesn't work against Stone Daggers but Stone Daggers, like any projectile attack, can be dodged by doing a perpendicular run.

Mantra of persistence+imagined burden is fun
Kinda like persistence+migraine for 36seconds, which is even less fun to experience than to think about.

Don't forget to add Arcane Condrum in there with Migrane.

You don't even need the /R for a good kite build..

Wastrels Worry (Constant damage every 3 seconds)
Conjure Phantasm (Degen)
Phantom Pain (Degen + Condition)
Crippling Anguish (Cripple)
Power Spike (If he tries to cast a healing spell or gale)
Distortion (If he gets to close)
Energy Tap (While using distortion)
Res signet or Ether Feast

14 Domination (2+1)
12 Illusion (+1)
6 Fast Casting (+1)
8 Inspiration (+1)

I ran a build with this. I used Apply Poison+Conjure. Kicked ass. About the cons it ain't so bad about hex removal since they spend so much mana on it it makes up for it
