Default Weapon Set for Necros

I was wondering which weapon set should for my necro.

For instance -

Collector Staff (max, of course):

can be customized. base +10 energy, with 20% fast cast in an attribute and 20% recharge.

or

Collector One Handed Weapon and Off Handed:

Weapon - 20% recharge in an attribute

Offhand - base +12 energy, 20% fast cast in an attribute and 20% recharge

It seems to me that one handed weapon & off handed is a better deal but many necros seem to insist on using staves.

Am I missing something here?

Thanks

The collector one handed weapon can be customized as well.

Care to elaborate on that, coldplay?

Really, Jetdoc? It is to my understanding one-handed caster items cannot be customized.

a max wand/offhand can give you the same stats with 2 more energy but for ease and cost go witha collector staff

collector staff can be modded with energy+5 head ,health+30 wrapping or enchant+20% wrapping ect. so that you will get 15 energy and 3 other mods

collector wand/offhand cant be modded you will get 3 mods with 12 energy only.

If you willing to spend over 150k+ for perfect wand/rod/trunchehon, you may get 17 energy with condition and 3 mods from wand/offhand.

to conclude, i will choose collector staff with 5 energy head, hp+30 wrap or enchant 20% wrap for under 40k

i spent 5k on a +4 10% truncheon so 150k is a bit over priced to beat the greens/staves

I'd say expect 30-80 to beat a collector modded staff

Well, I'm certainly not saying it's the best set, but I currently have Morgriff's Staff for when I'm using death and the collector's blood wand and Sarad's crafted idol for blood. It gets the job done well enough, and I typically don't have too many energy issues with soul reaping at 9 or 10. Plus the only thing I had to pay for was the idol.

simply put, the staff is only better if you have the upgrades you want for it or the cash to buy said upgrades. usually those upgrades cost oodles of money, so i just stick with collectors single hand items so far.

if you're going MM consider getting the +1 death 20% of the time offhand instead. its a nice feeling to have a few lvl 19 minions tagging along.

Let's ignore the cost for now. I'm more focused on what's the best or most effective set in your opinion.

Appreciate your thoughts and inputs. I know there's no 'ulimate' set and it's really up to players' preferences but I do enjoy hear from others.

If you want a 20% Enchants mod, you'll have to take a staff. Otherwise, all three Green offhands are superb, as is Gordac's Needle.

Villnar's Claw is trash.

Green two hand sets suck for one reason...+3 energy vs. up to +5 on a gold.

IMO

Perfect set up for say death depending on your build...

Wand +5 ernergy^50% :: 10% all or 20%death fastcast/fastrecharge
Offhand +1skill(20%) 10%all or 20%death fastcast/fastrecharge

Collector Wand -1 dmg(10%) +5 armor vs phy
Koles Gauntlent or Another status offhand +30 hp/+5 armor or +5 armor +30hp

-5 energy sword
-5 energy offhand with as little +energy as possible(if your offhand overall adds energy just get the best shield you can instead)

+30hp weapon
same as with the collector wand offhand suggestions

I know it's a little cluttered but think it through a little.

Not all builds need the +1 attribute but blood dgn/spike :: MMing :: SSer all make great use of it. If you don't need the +1 attribute say your skills are more balance and maxing death makes no sense go with +5 armor or +30 life

it's all so varied it really depends on your build and what you are weak to but I hope this helps some

its also a good idea to have a wand and focus that boost your energy as much as possible even at the cost of energy regen. i wouldnt keep this as my primary weapon set, but its great for emergencies when you really need to cast one or two more spells NOW.

What i was trying to say before, and i'll reiterate now, is that the difference between a good weapon set (usually collector stuff) and a perfect weapon set is rather minimal in stats (to the point where its almost negligible) but can be huge in cost. its actually one of the things i really like about guild wars. skill matters far far more than equipment (as long as you're not running around naked with a weapon set meant for another class...). 2 more energy may sound nice, but noone is ever going to notice that you're a more effective player because of it.

that said, i suppose there arent very many things to spend money on besides the perfect weapon set

i pretty much agree with the previous post, though i'm not sure how useful the negative energy one really is (for rebirth i assume?) and i'm not sure you need both the +armor and +health seperate sets...i would add in the max +energy set instead of one of those.

you may have trouble finding people to sell you the perfect golds though. even ignoring cost getting greens (eg bortak's set for mm) or building a perfect insightful staff of curses/death/blood might save you alot of time hunting for a seller

finally, for some builds +20% enchantment length may be better than +1 to an attribute.

Bah, go with the staff just for the simple reason that you can upgrade it. I have the collector's death staff and I positively love it. Here's what mine looks like after I upgraded it:

Insightful Bone Staff of Death Magic
Energy +10
Cold Dmg: 11-22 (req. 9 Death Magic)
Halves Casting Time of Death Magic Spells (20%)
Halves Recharge Time of Death Magic Spells (20%)
Energy +5 (finally got ahold of one for a decent price)
Death Magic +1 (17% when using skills)
