Your most likely problems are either:
1) You haven't reset the pet's name, which is an easy "/petname" away from being fixed.
2) You weren't careful enough in your training, and thus didn't push your pet far enough back towards Hearty after it hit Aggressive. It happens.
You've got a couple of options. For one, the Aggressive pet has -30 hp +5% damage (approximately, since we've never been able to test a lvl 20 Aggressive) over the Elder. If that's not too big of a difference from what you wanted, then you might just be happy with the pet you've got. Otherwise, you'll either have to train a new pet or capture an Elder pet.
To capture an Elder pet, you'll either need to seek out an Elder Black Widow in the Underworld or an Elder Wolf in Spearhead Peak.
To train your next pet you can either try the same method again, paying closer attention to what you're doing (I know, it can be a real pain), or you can try to get an unevolved pet instead. The unevolved pet, while having no name prefix to show off, has the exact same stats as the Elder pet. Further details on what to do differently in your training this time around can be found in the guide that was linked to by an above poster.
The only way we can help you with your builds, is for you to tell us what builds you've tried using, and for us to give you advice on what to change the second time around.
