which (customized) rod for 55 monk's 2nd weapon?
I’ve read in several 55 monk uw guides that a "customized" rod is suggested as a 55 monk's 2nd weapon, (used along with a second –50 grim cesta). It seems that +5 energy is one mod it should have.
I want to try solo 55ing in the UW
Any more information on which rods to use, and what way it should be customized?
And
Is this 2nd weapon JUST needed for an energy boost and/or something else?
The only references I repeatedly see about these weapons refer to them as customized, but I don’t see information on how they are customized.
Thank you for any information on this

If you plan to use it for wanding nightmares, you will be looking for a rod with a 15%+ chance on prot recharge or 15%+ chance on healing cast. *THE* best rod would be 20% cast on heal and 20% recharge on prot, which is extremely expansive (bought mine for 350k, but they would generally go for around 250-300K). Once again, if you plan to use it for nightmares, then yes you will need to customize it.
I'm rather surprised that you are ready to solo UW yet don't know how to customize a weapon. Visit a guy with a [ Weapons ] suffix in a big town, like Ascalon, Amnoon, LA, HoD, Droks.
+5 energy, unlike to popular beliefs, isn't needed at all with a 55 health build since you are getting your energy filled with Balthazar's Spirit and perhaps Essence Bond/Bonetti's Defense. Like I said, THE rod for uw is 20 cast on heal/20 recharge on prot, with a req you can meet.

I just use Wroths Rod:

Real Cheap too you can pick it up for around 3-4k in Deldrimor, light damage kills the NM's real quick.

Heh, I suppose I deserve the dig cerb
It comes down to an issue of semantics.
I was reading “customized” but was thinking “modified” as in customizing a weapon by adding certain mods to it, I certainly have been customizing weapons for the damage boost since pre
I merely misunderstood – I appreciate the reply, Thanks
Thanks Ravenglass I'll pick one of those up

I highly recommend wroths rod as well. As cerb said, the ideal rod would be divine req (or req8 smiting) with 20% prot recharge and 20% healing fast cast. Cerb and I were lucky enough to both find such rods, but rest assured they are extremely rare.
Contrary to popular belief, fire damage kills nightmares just as quickly as light damage. With my Holy Rod (fire) I can kill nightmares almost every time in 2 hits, and even some in 1 hit when I get a critical (exactly the same as with light damage.)
The only reason you'd need this weapon customized, is so you get more damage out of it and can more easily dispatch nightmares. You can customize weapons at any "weapon" NPC in towns, for 10gp.
