Alternate Ranger builds ftw
Ok I'm making one huge thread about all kinds of alternate builds.
I have some rules though.
Don't post standard builds like dual + pun + sav
Don't post standard bunny thumpers or touch rangers unless they are variations of them.
Do post your own builds.
Do have a great time experimenting.
Let the games begin!
I will start.
I use this as a heavy condition build.
Barbed trap
Dust trap
Fevered dreams
Healing spring
Rez
Whilring defense
Troll unguent
-optional skill-
What you do is you lay down both your traps and just let the warrior run at you.
The traps go off and you hit fevered dreams.
Since fevered dreams has a wide radius, it sends all conditions on this warrrior to the rest of his team.
I will rework this build a lot though. Healing spring is optional. Same with whirling.
Another build I've been using for months.
I bring you... the IW ranger woot!
R/Me with a sword as a weapon.
Get plenty in illusion expertise and bm.
Stack yourself with evade stances and heavy hitting bm attacks.
And IW.
This build is absolutely brilliant. I've taken on three warriors at one time.
THREE! With tf you can swing that sword a lot. So you deal a hella of lot of damage quickly. Not to mention your dangerous spammable pet attacks.
They can do a killer amount of damage as well.
And with your evade stances they can't touch you. And since the pet has a huge speed boost he will easily catch down and cripple the fleeing opponent. Then eat him. Mwhahahahahah.
Post more Alternate builds.

What? Bunny Thumpers and Touch Rangers rely SO MUCH on their secondary profession that I don't see how it could not be called "alternate"!

Thats a pretty cool build, what kind of alternate builds are you talking about? Ive come up with a few melee based R/W builds... but they arent really alternative.

Oath shot, mantra of signets, signet of weariness, debil shot, sig of humility, drain ench, leech signet, res signet..
Before the sig of weariness AoE nerf, this buildup could drain an entire easily...

Using Oath Shot with Signets is a great idea, I don't know why I thought it didn't work with Sigs....

Well if you love them then I suppose I could post a few :P
The first build I ever made was my R/W. It's a sword based build, and its very balanced.
R/W (Obviously :P)
Swordsmanship: 12
Beast Mastery: 3+1
Wilderness Survival: 9+1 / 2+1
Expertise: 9+1+1
Tactics: 2 / 9
Skills:
Apply Poison
Seeking Blade
Sever Artery
Gash
Tiger's Fury
Whirling Defense / Lightning Reflexes / Dryder's Defense / Gladiators Defense / Escape
Troll Unguent / Healing Signet
Rez Signet
Theres two options, wilderness survival, or tactics. With tactics you can use a shield, and use heal signet instead of troll sig. You could also use gladiators defense instead of the other evasion options, which deals with warriors that are hastling ya real good. With low ws, your apply poison wont last long, so you cant spread the poison around as well as you would with high ws. With high WS you can use troll unguent, which heals more than healing sig with the same attribute point, but it revocers hp over time, so no instant healing. You could also sub in dryders def instead of the other evasions, if youre afraid of ele damage. I wouldnt be too afraid of it, as rangers already have great ele defense, and for pvp purposes, most eles wont be hastling you too much.
Theres a bunch of variations you can make with this build, the possiblities are really endless-ish. You could take out the evasion and use greater conflag and drakescale armor, or go with a trap and ViM, or take out gash and sever artery for thrill of victory (if youve got tac) and final thrust, etc.

Looks pretty standard to me.. ;P
I used to always run a Poison Arrow/Phantom Pain/Shatter Delusions build. That was fun..

The first time I posted it must have been atleast 6 months ago, but I'm sure this build has been used before I thought of it.

I have not tried this build yet but tell me what you thing...tank degen ranger.
R/w
Sword
Expert
Wild Surv
Tactics
Pump attribute points into sword, expert and wild survival and left over into tactics
1)Greater Conflageration: Create a level 1-8 Spirit. For creatures within its range, all physical damage is fire damage instead. This Spirit dies after 30-126 seconds.
2)Dryders Defence: For 5-10 seconds, you gain 75% chance to evade attacks and 34-55 armor against Elemental damage.
3)Storm Chaser: For 8-18 seconds, you move 25% faster and gain 1-4 Energy whenever you take Elemental damage.
4) Troll unguent:For 10 seconds, you gain health regeneration +3-9.
5)Benetiis defence: For 5-10 seconds, you have a 75% chance to block incoming melee attacks. You gain 5 energy for each successful melee attack blocked. Bonetti's Defense ends if you use a skill.
6)Seeking blade: If this attack hits, you strike for +1-16 damage. If Seeking Blade is "Evaded", your target begins Bleeding and takes 1-16 damage. Seeking Blade cannot be "Blocked".
7)Gash:If this attack hits a bleeding foe, you strike for 5-17 more damage and that foe suffers a deep wound, lowering that foe's maximum health by 20% for 5-17 seconds.
8)Sever Artery: f this attack hits, the opponent will begin bleeding for 5-21 seconds, losing health over time.
swap storm chaser for apply poison for more degen dmg
Dragonscale armour
ok Conflageration changes all physical damage to fire dmg so all damage you might recieve is 30% countered by your armour. apply Dryders defence to get further armour bonus of 34-55 armor against Elemental damage.
also 75 % evade. bonettis defence alternative during down time.
Damage is degen based so seeking blade causes bleeding if evaded apply liberal dose of gash or sever artery to cause bleeding then gash. Stormchaser for energy management or if you want more dmg apply poisen instead of stormchaser skill.
lets hear your opinion....ok i just noticed kurow also has the seeking sever gash combo but i am not goin to change it now after typing all this out.
remember to look left, then right before stabbing your enemy

I think even though this build is a condition spreader, you should swap out bonetti's and take a shout like "fear me" or "shields up" or "watch yourself"
It will help the whole team. Also Conflagration really sucks. I've tried it.
No good. Don't waste an elite. Instead use apply poison and hundred blades to spread it around.
Also since you don't have conflagration anymore take out DD and stick in whilring defence.
Overall decent build.

I made a R/W melee build a long while ago as well I used a axe .
Eviscrate,Maiming Strike(Not sure Its the pet crippling attack though)Execuitor's Strike,Charm Animal,Tiger's Fury,Disrupting Lunge,Rez Sig,A utility skill here Call Of Haste is mainly what I put so the pet can reach to the enemy caster quicker as he kites and cripple him.
This is usasully a random arenas build. If you want to bring another pet skill instead of Call of Haste.I suggest bringing a bow as your 2ndary weapon(No Marks)since your pet bodyblocks you occasianly when your running toward the enemy. So,switch to your bow shoot watch your pet once your in range use maiming strike move back to your axe and continue your attacks .

Melee and pet dont mix, pets are very skill intensive, and to have them be effective you must bring atleast 4 pet skills.

Well, I'll go ahead and post my typical ranger build here. Since I haven't seen anything too similar out there, I suppose it could be considered alternate.
12 Marksmanship
14 Beastmastery
9 Expertise
7 Wilderness Survival
This is the general skill list, although I often vary it now and then with a nice interrupt, symbiotic bond, or whatever I feel like using at the moment:
Penetrating Attack
Tiger's Fury
Ferocious Strike
Feral Lunge
Predator's Pounce
Troll Ungent
Comfort Animal
Charm Animal
Granted, this may not be the "best" build out there, but it sure has been a lot of fun for me to play. It's been even better since FS, FL, and PP were made "pet attacks" and so were not disabled by Tiger's Fury. What I love about it is that with FS, I have an endless supply of energy, and can continually spam TF and PA. FL adds bleeding for a nice touch, and PP helps keep my stalker going. Like I said, it may not be some "uber supr pwnz" build, but it's fun if you want a nice mix of bow ability and having a pet. And while it may not be perfect, it got my lvl 20 ranger through nearly every mission in the prophecies campaign. Anyway, I hope you pet lovers enjoy!

4? In PvE yeah I guess if you don't use it only as a meatshield. In PvP, you really just need Charm Animal, Call of Haste and Brutal Strike. To res it would be just too much of a pain with the blackout. Carry TF, Irresistible Blow, Backbreaker, Crushing Blow, and you're fine.
