My Earth/Fire Ele
I've been trying the following builds on the first two factions mission and for the hell of it tried it on Ring of Fire and it worked really, really well. Provided of course we had two tanks, two monks, one necro (battery), a ranger and a mesmer (or similar combo) in our group.
Aura of Restoration
Fire Attunement
Breath of Fire
Rodgot's Invocation
Meteor Shower
Glyph of Energy
Dragon's Stomp
Attributes:
Earth: 7 (6+1)
Fire: 16 (12+1+3)
Energy: 12 (11+1)
When the tanks are bodly blocking a huge mob, I hit Rodgot's Invocations, Glyph of Energy, Dragon's Stomp, Breath of Fire and that usually kills off a few signification enemies. And if there are still a few enemies where the tanks are I hit Glyph of Energy again and Meteor Shower them. I've also tried the order Glyph, Meteor Shower, Breath of Fire and that takes them out really well.
I would never use Breath of Fire on a sole enemy unless its a boss and its being body blocked by tanks. But otherwise its pretty handy at doing repeat damage. Breath of Fire is also great when all the caster around me are being mass attacked in an ambush cause the AoE of it makes the enemies flee.
I've also tried Bed of Coal along with Dragon's Stomp and/or Meteor Shower and the effect is pretty awesome as well. The key with any skill that makes them flee is to use a skill that knocks them down first or keeps them down.

This sounds like a great idea as well, after my finals (tomorrow) I'm going to try out these and post the results. What was your 8th skill?

I don't have all the skills I want yet, but I subbed in some others for the time being, and I took my build to RA. So much fun against warriors:
Warrior approaches - "me smash squishy"
I cast bed of coals
Warrior - "me too 1337 to be killed by little fire damage"
Then I hit double dragon and whirlwind before they're aware. Immediately followed by aftershock and Tenai's crysals = dead warrior Basically, capitolizing on lack of organization and skill recognition in RA, you can pretty frequently tear through anyone who wants to come at you, or who won't run when you get next to them.
Still need more skills before I can solo with it though (and those last 2 levels to get me up to 20). The sad news was that it's not possible to cast bed of coals, then double dragon, and get off whirlwind before they start to run. Still hoping my plan with meteor shower will work, though.

How about War secondary.
Can do Bed of Coals + None Shall Pass! combo and throw in an Aftershock if you wanna stay Fire/Earth.

If you cast Whirlwind/Aftershock, and they're running, would a Flameburst still hit them?

Going back to the original build, I don't see why Breath of Fire would be on a skill bar ahead of Fireball, and I don't see why Dragon's Stomp/Earthquake would be on a fire skillbar at all.

The main point is you have to get all the damage to hit at the same time, or the AI will scatter after the second AoE hit. So, we accomplish this by stacking effect times and using a knockdown to hold them where they can't run away. Earth and fire is definitely the way to go so you get damage and defense. I have a build worked out somewhere, but can't find the card right now. But basically, it's high earth, fire, and enregy storage with skills picked for fast cast times, and damage per energy cost. After concidering a bunch of knockdowns, I went with meteor shower. Yes, it's costly, but the key is that it doesn't hit untill 3 seconds after you finish casting it... thus allowing you to cast other stuff that will hit at the same time. So, skills, in order:
fire attunement - cast before fight, and let energy regen to max
Kinetic Armor - right before you go into the fight
meteor shower
bed of coals
double dragon
aftershock
crystal wave/Tenai's Crystals
inferno
Haven't gotten to try it yet, but in theory, this would be a solo farming build too. Just barely enough survivability, but you only have to make it a few seconds, and they're all dead. The way it plays out is you finish meteor shower and the aftercast and cast bed of coals. The AoE AI won't trigger until the second hit of bed of coals, which will come just barely before the meteor shower KD. So, after meteor shower and aftercast, bed of coals and aftercast, you will be in the process of casting double dragon as the KD hits, making the end of it's aftercast just in time to hit aftershock while they're still knocked down. As they stand up, they'll freak and try to run, but you get crystal wave off before they've gotten far. Now, I doubt you can get inferno off too, unless you wait for them to settle and return... not good. So perhaps add armor of earth (since you aren't concerned with running anyway - you want them near you) or aura of restoration.
Haven't gotten far enough to try it yet, but my previous use of AoE nuking says it should work.... if anyone wants to try it out, let me know how it goes
Edit: or maybe trade flame burst for inferno, for the extra range of "nearby" instead of "adjacent"

this is nice but i like flame burst instead of inferno. the damage is few pts less, but recharges MUCH faster, so if some anoing fow is not finished i can keep sppaming it to finish him off and not be stuk with a bunch of recharging skills. i always use it for myt 55 builds
