Default First Monk...(Help with secondary)!

I am building a monk(Princess Z E L D A ....Look me up) and am at the point of deciding my secondary. I've read alot on this forum, and want to know the advantages and disadvantages of a warior and mesmer monk secondary?

EDIT:
This is for PvE

/Wa has more skills relating to keeping yourself alive more easily, and has a fair deal of running and solo monking skills. Though it lacks elite energy management.

/Me has more skills relating to energy management, and has skills for solo monking aswell.

/Ne has in my opinion the best PvE elite energy management, Offering of Blood, and offers Spiteful Spirit for solo monking. Though it has little else to offer a monk.

I personally find myself using /Me and /Ne the most.

I wouldn't recommend going with mo/n, since they nerfed OoB to the point of being questionable. Mo/me offers the absolute most and best skills relating to energy management. being mes secondary offers you other helpful things as well, such as defensive skills (ie. mantras) and hex removals.

For your first monk I'd most definitely recommend mes secondary, as if you want to change to /w or /n for farming later on you can with no problem. This is especially useful since you don't get the elites in question (SS or OoB) until late in the game. With Mo/me you can use the inspiration skills throughout the game to aid your energy pool.

Warrior seconary isn't really useful at all in PvE, unless you're farming. There aren't really many skills in the warrior line that will help you in parties, and the only one people usually use in farming is Bonettis defense. You wouldn't want to use that when normally monking, since it forces you to get hit, and you don't want to ever get hit.

I would go for mesmer first until you get used to monking. After you're comfortable with keeping yourself and your teammates alive, you can, and imo should, look into Offering of Blood.

*slaps head* You guys are right, /Me would be much more suitable for going through the game, I keep forgetting how far into the game OoB is, whereas you can use the energy management / defense the /Me offers early on.

Distortion, Energy Tap, Inspired/Revealed Hex/Enchantment, Mantras, etc.

Mo/Me have many ways for self defense and gaining energy when you're a starter with monk. I too I started my first monk Saturday (lvl 10 at Keineng Center) but as a Mo/Me

i would agree with sno. i have tried both and now that the Oob nerf has happened i use /Me as my secondary and find it to be the best fit for a new monk working with energy management, i was able to teach the strat to a guildie in about 10 mins and as long as u have the fast fingers and knowledge to keep your teammates alive you will be ok

therefor ei would tell you to chose mesmer as your secondary considering this is your first time, not saying that the necro would be too hard for you but its hard for people who have been doing this a while now, so its your choice but this is my idea

Mo/Me is best when you want to get the right skills when entering post-searing immidiatly, that is, if you've unlocked the right skills (Inspired Hex/Inspired Enchantment/Energy Tap). And if you're getting a run to Droknar's, you can always get Mantra of Recall near Camp Rankor.

Mo/W isn't good for a Protector or Healer, unless you're playing a 55 Health Monk, but I wouldn't advice going Mo/W untill you're level 20 in that case (unless you'll get a powerlevel, and don't want to switch your secondary proffesion), as you wouldn't get much profit from it at first.

If you are going to go other than /mes which in my mind is the classic healing build like sno said.I went through the whole game with 2 monk one being a complete mo/w and the other being a mo/e.When I played my mo/w I used watchyourself more than bonetti's and after playing and beating Faction with my mo/w using bonetti's as a protect monk when you target something you will get energy.

Then there is your infuse build if you do use it you would want to use balance stance when infuseing to prevent knock downs although this is a more of a PvP build and when playing mo/e there are your glyphs.

What I mean is that i made my Monk as a mo/w from presearing on. I never changed it to be as my secoundary as back in beta some were experimenting with mo/w in pvp and i did as well.It is still a good pvp build as I heard a TE member say so with ViM.I made Misty Maiden in beta althouggh I did delete and redid her as I wanted to ad a little more flare to her.

Any advantage to being a Monk/Ranger? I was a Monk/Mesmer, but went to Cantha to level up and worked my way to Senji's Corner where I now have access to all 2nd professions. Now I'm a Monk/Ranger cause I like to have a pet white tiger.

I'm sure there are a few, though the first that comes to mind is something along the lines of a 55 runner. Using the /Ra's speed buffs to your advantage.

Maybe some builds that involve pets, or Serpent's Quickness. Probably more out there, its just that I have limited knowlage of the Ranger.

Mo/R as holy pet? Judge Insight with 3-4 Beast mastery skills and Enranged lunge. If we say 12 at Beast....... +80 Holy dmg and 20% penetration. GG

Well, I chose mo/me today and am now lvl16(factions) and still am working toward my survivor title. I really like healing, especially with divine boon. I really believe now that you are only as good as your best monk. Anyways thanks for the advice, and look me up sometime (Princess Z E L D A).
