I used to run Armor of Earth for a while on my W/E build, but the problem is not really the slow down with 8 in Earth, but enchantments get stripped and its a costly and slow recharging enchant to re-use again when that happens. It works fine in some areas but high level Necros and Mesmers will remove it. You can use a cover enchantment like Conjure, but then you're taking two skills just to keep one going.

The build will work fine in PvE....
The reason you do not see armour of earth alot, is because most pve tanks are W/Mo ( some W/Me ) with mending ( duh !! ).
Also, more builds are for PvP use, putting armour of earth on a warrior then is a nono!! ( How about capturing an elite skill like Earthshaker? works great in pve, with aftershock and belly smash )

No, it doesn't work fine in PvE, at least not in every area. Try running Armor of Earth in Grenth's Footprint or Sorrows Furnace and watch what happens. Like I said before, it CAN be used in SOME areas, but won't hold up in the higher level areas.
