Protective Bond...
I was browsing through skills while killing some trolls, they really don't hold much of a good conversation so... anyway I stumbled across prot bond and for some odd reason I was also thinking, "Hey wouldn't it be nice if I could PWNZORS!!SHIFT1! those annoying Ice Imps" in revenge of untimely deaths. It also came to me that the loveable mantras had been buffed.
So I went out with 12 prot, Protective Bond, and +1 Prot offhand. After a few casts the energy lost per hit fell to 3, which I expected but didn't believe in my self. I was somewhat familiar with the skill before, with all the fuss about 55 prot bond monks. After the nerf of it I wasn't sure if it would do what I expected, so I tested.
So we have a loss of three, gain of two, gain of two more (balth and essence), for a overall gain of 1 energy per hit... and 1 pip of regen. This is slightly below the energy gain of Avarre's 55 but it is in a way far safer as your life will never be lost due to an interupt, with imps and maelstrom... bad stuff happens. Also you do not spend 10 energy every 15 - 18 (for enchant mods) seconds, which should, in some ways, overcomes the loss of the +1 energy gain that you would get without Bond.
~Edit: For clarity; +1 Essence Bond, +1 Balth Spirit, +2 Mantra of Frost, -3 Protective Bond (13 prot).
So I ran into the pile of imps outside Marhan's and honestly just sat there for 10 minutes before realising they couldn't dent me... but I had no possible way to kill them. Sadly they spam!!! ice spear and SOJ has no effect on it so... they spammed I sat, occasionaly casting Healing Breeze. I tried to spark a nice convo with the imps but all they did was shout and make weird magic noises. Second run I tested IW... and boy did it take forever... it was like being an Executioner having to hack someones head off with a spoon.
So there lies the dilema, I found a way to use prot bond and become nearly unkillable against elementalists... but I have no real way (that doesn't take 20 minutes) to kill them. Anyone got some ideas :P
In reality this is not at all worth using, as Mantra of Resolve should counter-act the "chance" of an interupt from unexpected maelstroms making Avarre's build easily superior with an over abundant energy supply. I was honestly just looking into the possibilities of Prot Bond with the new Mantras, though... there is one thing that Avarre's build can't do (as safely) as this can, kill the Earth "Lich" boss in Arborstone... not that this is at all relevant XD
