Protective spirit would be an obvious one =D.
I am not sure what skills to use, but I'd stay away from using spells that cause exhaustion though since you have to heal and use protective spirit on yourself a lot.

Use Earth magic, Obsidian Flesh and Obsidian Flame for nightmares. I was sure there was another reason to use Earth... Cant remember anyway...

Yeah, I find earth magic the best. But just beware of enemies that use crystal wave. It'll destroy you. I would have Ether Renewal on, but Obsidian Flesh is better in that case. Kinetic armor is another good sepll to have in mind too.

um no?
the whole point is to get damage down hence 55hp+PS you are taking 5 damage a hit and it is unlikely you are going to reduce any damage from that anyways

Depends if you're gonna get raped by more than 10 guys. In that case, use shielding hands. They'll do Absolutely nothing =D. I used it in the ascalon arena when my monk was lvl 10. They did nothing =D.

Is there much point to Obsidian Flesh in builds where you can't keep it up permanently?
And is this really a/the standard build, or is something like Ether Renewal more common? (I don't have a feel for which mobs provide enough juice via Essence Bond/Balth's and which don't.)

Don't you have to worry about - health degeneration hexes and stuff like that?

Hexes are blighters usually, but with a 55hp they can be simple. Hexes for 1 can be removed easily, but if there is no room in the build for hex removal they can be survived. The damage hexes (ss,mop) or similar still only do 5 damage ( a managable amount) since you always have prot spirit on. Since im not playing right now, but i think im correct in saying with 9 healing you gain +3 from mending, and + 7 from healing breeze (correct me if im wrong). And in most areas you do not get enemies who cause you -10 degen, only place i can think of right now is fow ancient skales. And since you have such low hp, little regen goes quite a long way so the smaller degen hexes are also no problem.
So in short, hexes dont affect you. (in most circumstances)

Yes 55 e/mo is indeed possible; you ever seen 'The Kryta Bomber'?

Ok. GREAT video; thanks for the link!
But what does that have to do with Obsidian Flesh? I saw a whole lot of melee mobs, plus hydras.

See the Elementalist forum. Before things got kicked into this new forum, there were multiple references to 55 HP Ele/Mo farming.
The disadvantages of not going Mo primary are obvious -- Divine Favor and attribute points, especially since you can use multiple sup runes.
The advantages of going Ele primary are also pretty obvious -- energy management elite if you want it, high starting energy pool. They don't seem impressive, however.
And the advantages of having Ele be the second profession in some order are also obvious -- AoE damage spells, more ranged damage than smiting offers.
I think the real reasons for doing it is that you happen to have an Ele primary, that Ele sup runes are cheaper than monk ones (much less of a factor now), etc.
