so i havent prophecies, and i can clearly see many of the best skills are not avaliable in cantha...my ranger feels gimped... i was thinking abt deleting it since my sin can outdmg it by far (and survival is also better believe me or not..) and can solo bosses....my rit also kicks ass, its a monster, got a necro MM, cant be much else without prophecies but it still kicks ass..

any1 know a way to make a canthan ranger decent? =/

buy the skills, or bring your ranger into Tyria and do the quest if you can, not sure since I haven't tried it.

If your having trouble survivng in pve as a ranger you are doing something wrong, they have more evasion and escape skills than any other character and are easyily one of the best classes to play.
soloing bosses is easy if you take your time to trap and prepare first.

ic, its just that i find it hard to beat the defense from crit defenses (almost always up) and shadow form, can tank many bosses easily

i know it sounds n00bish but know any good tactics to kill bosses solo with a canthan ranger? =/

stances wont last forever...

IMO ranger kicks ass and assassin suks

dont forget that as ranger your role is to stay behind and shoot diffrent arrows, and not run ahead and tank. thats probably why u keep dying

no, the problem is that my sin can deal more dmg and survive longer, PvE boss farming is much easier when you have crit defenses (perma evasion) and can deal tons of dmg in a short time..

well a lot of good elite skills are in propheices, such as oath shot, punishing and cripple shot... but a good skill i can think of is melandru's shot which isn't bad at all. I started a canthan ranger and used all the normal ranger spike skills but i just had to go to tyria to cap punishing

use a stance (something to evade)
use poison (in any shape)
use interruption (theres plenty)
use a spike (thers plenty)
use self healing (always)

all that together=dead ANYTHING

so i just tried it, many times against bosses

stances, they rock...for 20 secs, then you have 40 secs taking full dmg (while a boss can kill you in 3-5 sucessiful hits)
poison helps a lot, like always
interruption works well, specially against bosses self healing stuff (curious note is that my sin can outdmg even the healing with no interrupts..)
the spikes...arent really "spikes" unless im doing something seriously wrong, all atks dmg might look a lil nice but the refire and recharge rates are killers.. (tried with many different bows)
self healing, i tried troll unguement, by the time its working you either wasted the precious lil time stances give you to hit the boss or after the 3 secs cast time you already died...twice..

i think ill put my hopes on a pet for PvE, if it doesnt work..

btw this ranger rocks in PvP as a spiker, hitting enemies from faaaar away, can kill human players pretty fast too (made the R/E with kindle arrows) just cant see a way to work it out for PvE, also got a friend who is depressed cause he only has a ranger and cant find a way to solo with it..

It is my experience that Me secondary for ranger can up your survivabilty...

Also, what types of bosses are you going after?

I played an assassin and they definately out damage a ranger, but they DO not out survive them.

well i used R/E, but i was sticking with mostly ranger skills, could it be the problem? also i didnt get a pet or beast mastery skills, trapping doesnt look so nice in cantha and there isnt much room on boss hunting to run around

you see, the real problem is... Critical defenses=75% block lasts 6 secs (7 with xuekao, and can be kept up forever with crit eye, not to mention high crit=tons of energy) while whiling defense=20 secs 75% evasion...60 secs recharge =/

as for bosses i tried warrior, ranger, monk and assasin ones
my sin cant take the warrior or the ranger ones, (might with a build change, but i didnt try to do so yet) with the right build i can take on certain groups of mobs too (and i know how to gt out of shadow for alive and keep fighting..)
my rit.. hmm i dont think there is any bosses out there it cant kill O.o, maybe that baddass kappa elementalist boss on the jade sea (dont remember the place) not to mention rits can take on entire groups alone
necro, giv me a corpse and ill make many more, we all know them right?
