Mark of Pain Questions
Hi I have a mo/n farmer (i didn't want to put this in the monk section b/c of mark of pain skill relating to necro)
and I noticed that many people don't use Mark of Pain (or at least what i see...) so i've decided to add it to my build, however I was wondering about the weapon? I know for a fact that MOP is triggered by physcial dmg so sword/axe/bow would work. However if I used an IDS would the cold dmg still be physical?
Also I'm really confused about weapons and upgrades...
Should I use an axe or sword?
I really don't care about the dmg b/c I want to keep the target alive as long as possible for MoP to work, but I would like the energy bonus... is the max energy bonus for a weapon 5? Sry really confused... never actually had the money to buy a weapon till today..

Physical Damage is anything but a wand or staff.
IDS will work just fine.

Sorry, I can't answer your question about energy on axes or swords.
IDS is not physical damage, so MoP shouldn't work at all. It does trigger Spinal Shivers though. It is quite clear that you don't care about base damage (otherwise you wouldn't use a sword or axe on a Mo/N).
I must ask you, why are you using a melee weapon anyway? Use a bow, its a bit safer. But if you want energy, get a monk weapon or necro weapon. To me MoP doesn't do enough damage for you to justify using a physical weapon. Its more for damage that warriors or rangers do. Henchies do nicely with it.

physical is blunt, piercing or slashing dmg, IDS is icy dmg and doesnt count. you can prove this by hitting glint with an IDS and living to tell the tale
Also as someone who plays an order necro its annying to be in a B/P team ofr example and have most of the team using elemental bows, this not getting the effects of the order's.

Holy Damage > Orders Gotta love Judges Insightfor undead.
But yeah if it says Physical Damage, it means PHYSICAL. Elemental mods are not physical, neitheir is chaos damage.
While we're on the topic though, Whirling Defences does activate it. Keep that in mind next time your planning a Grawl EoE bomb

for sure physical is physical and an elemantal mod will do this curse no good.
but fiends, minions and horrors will trigger mark of pain. that's sort of cool.
as unholy said, it will cause the mob to scatter. i dont see much of a problem with it since the center of the aoe is a target. you can just kind of follow him. but the target dies so quickly that you don't get much use out of the curse. and the cooldown blows.
whirling D. freakin never thought about that....

I'll have to test that, but I was pretty sure that it worked with an IDS. I have one, so... more testing tonight.
Hmm... just tested it... IDS doesn't work anymore. It used to. I guess they patched that. Also, there was a bug a week back where you could use mark of pain to hit an enemy with poison arrow, and the enemies within AOE would be poisoned. I guess they fixed alot. ..heh...
Yeah, slashing, piercing, blunt.... just like the man said.

I always figured any non-physical attack won't work on Mark Of Pain (that's why I never bothered to try). I didn't know there was a bug before.
Remember, no ignite arrow, greater conflaguration, chaos damage, judge's insight, fire damage, cold damage, lightning damage, earth damage, poison damage (unless that hasn't been fixed yet), holy damage will work with MoP. Bows are used just to pull, if you can pull a ranger a bit, then weapon switch to your anhk and cast, then switch back, you can see the damage appear and see what works. I just find a spellcaster fighting in melee range too close to the action for me.

Fixed it? As far as I know it never worked that way.
I used to take a Ebon sword with me to the arena's to avoid the +20 vs Physical that warriors have, and that was in the first few months of GW. So elemental mods dont count as physical.
