It's Barrage/Pet.
Usually it's R/E or R/Mo with Barrage, Charm Animal, Comfort Animal, a spirit, Judge's Insight/Conjure fire/lightning/ice, filler skills.
Basically the pet provides cannon fodder for the MM. Mass death of pets, make minions, rez pets. Repeat ad infinitum. Barrage is itself also a good skill for this (6 hits to a group of enemies by ~5-6 rangers is 36 hits per 2sec or so...at ~2e per Barrage). Add to that the damage bonuses and you have AoE carnage on a stick.

You don't have to go R/e, its nice to have a r/m with the only monk skill being a hard res. Usually the team needs a mix of utility roles as well. Someone with spirits (fav winds and win) someone with interrupts, defence, etc. I like doing the following with a vamp bow and something non vamp to swap out of.
barrage {e}
savage
distracting
tigers stance
throw dirt
charm
comfort
rebirth
You could add in whirling instead of 1 of the interrupts as well.
Or for spirits,
Barrage {e}
Savage/distracting
lightning reflexes
winnowing
favorable winds
Comfort
Charm
rebirth
just some rough ideas. Check the ranger forums, i think there is a post on b/p builds as well.

...I said you could go R/Mo... The hard rez would be nice... I think there's a ranger forum post on b/p too somewhere (jeez, how far down would it be?).

I don't know about troll ungent. At least in tombs and sorrows I've never found that I needed it, or that it would save me if I were going down. Staying behind the wall of fodder and attacking faster with tiger stance or lightning reflexes seems better. When in trouble, throw dirst/stance and move. In general I'd rather not have to dip into W-survial if not running spirits. If you want a sort of all purpose pve use B/p then trolls for running around with hench, doing missions and such might be ok.

lol
Ok, well, I don't know much about trapping I admit but from what I can tell the following are some things to consider with spike trap.
Wack of damage, Kd, and cripple are all nice effects but this does take your elite spot. There are a couple other elites that might be used instead for different reasons.
Oath Shot: Your traps have a 20 sec recharge time (except dust is 30 i think?) so you want to have a good way of being able get a new set of traps laid more quickly. Oath shot instantly recharges all your traps. Its drawback is that it has to hit something and it costs 10. Instead of oath shot you might use serpents quickness and keep spike trap.
Trappers Focus: Your traps are easily interrupted which of course is something you need to get around. This new elite does this nicely. Of course you still take damage while you sit there trapping, so you might use the elite Escape. Instead of those 2 elites, to keep spike trap you might use whirling defence or mantra of resolve (well this one still gets u hurt) or both.
Some sample builds (again, I'm no trapper...but here are some ideas)
Spike Trap {E}
Dust Trap
Flame Trap
Barbed Trap
Whiling Defence
Mantra of Resolve
Serpents Quickness
Res Sig
(swap out a trap for troll's if u like)
Oath Shot {E}
Dust
Flame
Barbed
Whirling
Trolls
Mantra
Res Sig
Trappers Focus {E}
Dust
Flame
Barbed
......???
Whirling
Trolls
Res Sig
