bah well that sucks...there goes wasted time on trying to get a dire pet...
and im guessing its not possible to "reverse" it's evolution into elder, right? lol. or since right now it's still unevolved, is there i way that i could push it towards dire again?

If the pet misses its evolution and still remains unevolved by level 13, you have a VERY good chance of it never evolving again (which actually can be used to your advantage if you're going for an Elder pet, since you can reach that point and then level however you want to after that). There's still a chance it could be a late bloomer, but I sure wouldn't count on it (it's easier to level a new pet to lvl 11 than to get your current one to 20 and find you need to restart anyways).
Unevolved pets have the same stats as Elder, so even though you'll never get a title on your pet, it will function as though it was an Elder. If you really wanted Dire, then you'll have to restart your pet. I will say that if you got unevolved when shooting for Dire, you had something interfering. Take a very close look at the guide again and try to follow it as exactly as possible, or let me know exactly what you were doing and I'll point out where you went wrong.
From a first glance, I can suggest not auto-attacking. While you can get a Dire pet while auto-attacking, it causes a lot of trouble for some people. You see, when you auto-attack two things happen. First, no matter how insignificant, you are dealing damage and thus taking away from your pet's damage. Second, you tend to hang back at bow distance while your pet runs in rather than you leading the way for your pet. This means your pet will be the focus of attacks more often and inevitably take more damage. If all else fails, it really helps to equip a shield and no weapon at all, then simply focus on tanking for your pet while it tears things up with your pet attack skills.
Also, I notice you chose to fight Stone Summit and Charr, both of which are enemies that do degen which most certainly will deal damage to the pet and push it towards Hearty. Whether or not your pet is getting healed for that damage means nothing, what matters is if it took the damage in the first place.
Unevolved happens when the pet doesn't have enough push to go either Aggressive or Playful and happens either 1) when the pet hasn't done much of anything at all (ie: being leveled entirely while dead and not even getting the chance to die often, or you just happening to be (un)lucky enough to evenly balance your push towards Hearty and Dire) If you were shooting for Dire and got Unevolved, then something was happening to cancel out that damage your pet was dealing with Brutal Strike. I'd be willing to bet a large part of it was degen damage.

hmm, jenosavel i think you're right. when i was fighting charr and stone summit, they did use a lot of hex spells and the like. in the guide it suggests leveling the pet up against minotaurs, although the only minotaurs i can think of are the high level ones out in the desert or in Elona Reach or the level 10-14(cant remember exactly what level) ones up in northern shiverpeaks outside of Ice Tooth Cave.
Seems like leveling up a lvl 5 pet in the desert wouldnt be such a great idea considering it needs to be doing most of the damage, which against level 20+ mobs wouldnt seem so much.
I also tried taking the pet to the minotaurs outside of the Ice Tooth Cave, the only problem i had there was that i would always seem to get packs of like 6+ minotaurs that was a bit overwhelming.
oh and i also leveled him from maybe level 10 or so up to 11 on the Shiverpeak creatures (warriors, longbows, and protectors) right outside Beacon's Perch on the north side.
I think all in all my pet died maybe twice during the leveling, which was probably just because i wasn't paying close attention (it gets boring :P)
so any suggestions?

I capped a white tiger in cantha and leveled it to 15 (dire) in a day. Mergoyles outside Gates of Kryta took it to level 13 and then Mergoyles outside Beetletun took it to 15. The only skills I really used were Call of Protection (-11 damage = mergoyles really don't do jack till they start casting their binding chains combo) and poisonous bite from Cantha. Only once did my pet die and only once after that did it come close to dieing (from the binding chains combo).

well, he's level 13 now...still no evolution title. maybe i'll just get a new lizard and try again, this time only leveling him against the mergoyles.
dargon, just wondering, were you auto attacking with your bow while your tiger was killing? and did you notice your pet taking lots of damage? or did he seem to be at full most of the time without healing it?
thanks

Mergoyles and the Minotaurs outside Ice Tooth both level your pet about equally as fast and easily, so it all comes down to preference. With one, they're higher level but you spend more time running around and rezoning (many, many fewer to kill in one run). With the other, you can kill them faster but need to kill more to get your level up. Either one offers sufficient experience to get your pet up to level 15, if you have the patience for it.

I only attacked once or twice to get my tiger to run in (long bow). Put up call of protection for him and then just used the occasional pet skill to improve upon his damage. His health bar never dropped by more than about 15-20% except when the bind chains combo was used by the level 14 mergoyles outside beetletun.
