Ever since the AoE update and the adding of dying nightmares 55 monks seem to have a hard time soloing UW,but there is a very simple solution.

SKILLS:
PROTECTIVE SPIRIT
HEALING BREEZE
SHIELD OF JUDGEMENT
ZEALOT'S FIRE
BONETTI'S DEFENSE
MENDING
ESSENCE BOND
BALTHAZAR'S SPIRIT
All you have to do is make sure all of your enchantments except SoJ including Zealot's Fire and rush your group of whatever and if you see a nightmare pop up then jus run up to him and cast PS the damage from ZF will kill it even though ZF does low damage.It is a good idea when fighting Grasping Darkness to use Bonetti's Defense so that their zealous and Disrupting Chops will give you no problems.The ZF also helps you take the RoF off of smites that way they dont absord the SoJ.When fighting Coldfires be sure to stay clear of there Maelstrom otherwise you will not be able to cast your neccesary spells to survive.The ecto drops have really decreased but if your bored you can go and if your lucky get maybe 2-3 ecto.I have no problems when soloing UW with my 55 monk its very simple but can be difficult if you have a slow computer or a bad connection cause when you rush your first group you might get lag and get hit by a nightmare.Also i personally used a +1 Zealot's helm and tattoo armor for energy and a little bit more damage,but soloing UW is very simple go and give it a try!

I've tried to solo using the excelente guide someone posted the link to in this thread, and for anyone who is like me and wants real profit, duo runs are MUCH more profitable...I've managed to do a whole smite run in 20 minutes!!

The new factions skills such as Ancestor's Visage and Reckless Haste makes this a lot quicker...Believe Me =)

Now for on-topic, i think the link in this thread to the original solo build has a method of killing the nightmares called "Popping the nightmare" that uses ZF, so this isn' new
