Boon Prots are the flavor of the month. There are multiple ways to heal, varying in effectivness and efficiency. Aswell as the user's personal preferance. Examples being - MoR Boon Prot, Boon Heal, OoB Straight Heal, MoR Straight Heal, etc....

Depends on the situation. Some prefer it, though I would hardly say that one well made build is better in all situations than another well made build. I prefer to have the resources necessary to switch between builds, so that I can make full use of each one in their most effective enviroment.

Thing is Sir, The Boon Prot is at the moment the best way to heal and protect the party member. However This is not to say that there is no use for healing, protection or some pure divine favour skills.
There are situations where you want a POWER healer. This is when you are facing lots of damage and lots of degen.
Here is a Power healer. Place where you would use this is Heroes ascent. ( In GVG you would probably drop the healing seed for a drain enchant or sumat)
Healing 14 (16 with superior switch)
Divine 10 (or 11 depends on you )
Inspiration 9 ( or 8)
Word of Healing
Orison of Healing
Dwaynas Kiss
Heal Party
Healing Seed
Inspired Hex
Holy Veil
Channeling
Here is a Blessed Light Protector. You would use this when you are light on hex and condition removal and most probably alongside a boon prot.
Divine 14 (16 with superior switch)
Protection 9
Inspiration 10
Domination (rest of points)
Blessed Light
Signet of Devotion
Reversal of Fortune
Protective Spirit
Gaurdian
Mend Condition
Hex Breaker or Holy Veil
Drain Enchantment or Power Drain
These two builds are powerful and used in both GVG and Team arenas and work well in PVE too.

Boon Prot is great because it's good for everything. Hex removal, condition removal, protecting and healing and low casting and recharge time. Boon Prot is simply the best build for healing unless you're not playing in a random team (since you can devide rolls in that case, like pah01's builds).

well, some of my favorite posters of this forum have already posted, so far be it from me not to peep a bit into this thread as well.
i know you feel nex cause when i first started reading these forums, i was overwhelmed just by the # of builds there were..and what was good since no one goes in with the mindset to create a subpar character. i think at least on pve i can comment on some experience now...and ive tried a WoH healing build and boon prot, etc. id take maxie and pah01 at their word on..um whatever they say almost :P but all i can vouch for on my own is that boon prot is FUN to play. i feel more versatile than a pure healer build, though under pressure it gets a bit more hectic (since energy management comes into play surprisingly fast then). diff ppl like diff play styles, diff builds - thats for certain...boon prot works for me.
maxie has a good guide with exceptional comments following...if you have a part time job with access to a comp, then i suggest you do what i do and just read all the threads lol. it helps.

Boon prots are sort of the jack-of-all trades build people like running. It provides protection and a lower point heal level all in one, as well as has either condition or hex removal. Boon proter's in HA NEED at least one heal monk to be an effective high damage defense, they also REQUIRE some sort of e-managment to run for any length of time. Heal monks, MoR WOH can typically run around blasting high point heals on a far lower energy pool then a boon prot monk can. Typically it's always nice for defense to have a BR necro running around also.
So, no boon prot isn't the only way to heal, but it is extremely effective when combo'd with a heal monk. Boon aegis for pve is like heal party on crack!

You run boon protect for one reason. TO LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Boon protect was designed, tested, built, and mass produced for PVP <<<<
There are better ways to heal, but none as good as this one for survival.
Has hex and condition removal, spam guardian and protective spirit and you are good to go.
Now you can be lazy like me and run this during pve and pvp. Just dont forget to take rez instead of aegis, like i did once. Very embarasing. Like wtf your a monk and dont have rez. LOL

Boon prots are mainly a bit harder for those new to monks due to the energy managment. You have to get used to it

Well heres the thing, If you want a build that is simple and straight forward then go with the full heal. However, with boon prot you gotta be paying attention at all times, seeing whos taking the most damage, and where the conditions/hexes are being placed.
IMO they are rated about the same. Perhaps it was because i was a good healer (from what ive heard). I do find it easier to keep the entire party alive with a Boon Prot over the Spike Healer. However it sure is fun watching someone go from 50 health to 400 in around 2 seconds.
But Boon Prot > Spike Healer for overall party efficiency.

If your heading into high level areas then Boon prots are brilliant. NOTHING comes close to Protective Spirit for stopping damage to make it healable. Just like all those players that normally die before your Healer monk can cast survive easily when Reversal of Fortune is thrown onto them. I'd never go with 2 boon prots though. Energy management can be awkward. Specially in areas with lots of Enchantment removal where MoR is removed early or you keep having to recast Boon. Plus if you do use RoF on a target, you get 100ish heal and possibly only heal with Reversal for 7 before another massive spike hits, its a powerful heal, but not entirely reliable.
As i found out many times in FoW, your a really easy target for spikes. Shatter Enchantment + Deep Freeze and Maelstrom hitting almost instantly and your absolutely screwed, and yes, the AI is smart enough to time it that well.
I usually take res on my monk, for some reason people seem to enjoy throwing themselves in front of things to stop them killing you (occasionally anyway), Rebirth or Restore Life are great. RA/TA i take a signet though, you never know when that 1 extra Res Signet is gonna make your team win.

Haha, my apologies. Time flies, eh?
I'm pretty 50 / 50 about Boon vs Spike or Straight. Generally you run 2 Monks per high level team, one Boon Prot or Bonder, and one Spike or Straight Healer. Which to me, pretty much says six to one half a dozen to the other as far as usage in high level areas.

Not to my knowledge. The only teams i see wanting only 2 monks, a healer and a bonder are usually 4-6 man teams. Every full team i see in FoW seems to want either a Healer and a Boonprot/Prot or 2 Healers/1healer1prot and a Bonder. You can pretty much guarantee that if you take a bonder, your gonna end up with 2 people getting Shatterspiked at the exact same time meaning 1 always dies if you take only 1 healer. The more organised teams (least i hope they are when i join em) only want 1 Boonprot 1 Healer and can go the distance.

Maxie said it fairly well. Boon prots are the best at single-monking. If you have an organized 3 man backline (3 monks, or even 2 sometimes) then it's better to run specialized monks, such as 2 healers and a prot monk, or a heal, active prot, and passive prot (bonder.) when working with 16 or 24 skills you can come up with much better combinations to keep your team alive than with only 8, so 2 or 3 boon prots loses its glory.
Keep in mind though that this only holds true with organized groups, such as guild groups. If you're pugging, boon prot is generally the way to go, since you can almost always count on the other monks to suck.
