Default Taming a Bear, I need help

With the bear having an interupt skill, what is the best way to tame the bear. I have tried with a beginner mesmer using imagined burden, and also with some knockdown skills from a guildie but cant seem to get it to work. Timing is off, also all of this is presearing so it might be alittle harder with limited skills. Any help is appreciated. Thanks to all in advance

I presume you're speaking of Pre-Sear Ascalon. Try to find one of the high level monk/mesmers who hang around in pre-sear. Imagined Burden is key, as I recall, and there's a trick about starting the charm animal skill then running out of agro range. Probably a quick search of this forum or google for "charm bear pre sear" will find the exact technique.

In any case, it can be done.

The bear has the ability to interupt a charm animal skill.

The main trick is to have someone tank for you. Just have someone stand infront of the bear, while you charm it. It attacks your friend, while you cast. As long as your friend doesn't kill the animal before hand, you can charm it. The problem is your friend must tank. So continually healing him/herself is key.

If you are by yourself, I can't remember if you have any evades or blocking skills in pre-seering.

Default Thanks for the help, we got one

Thanks all for the input, I managed to tame a bear last night. I did so with the help of a mesmer and 300 gold. I dont know if he used any skills but basically he stood in front of the bear, got the bear to attack him and I had them at the edge of my aggro circle. While trying to charm, my friend would run in the opposite direction of where I was standing and after many tries, the bear got out of range for his break charm to break my charm. The charm only needs to be started while the bear is in range. You stand still while your partner runs away and the charm skill keeps going. Again after many tries we did it. It all comes down to timing and teamwork. Thanks all for the help.

Anything that isn't a bear, spider or lizard from Tyria. Not enough testing has been done on factions animals to tell.

Correction, all the pets attack at the same rate, except for the bear, it's Brutal Mauling kills it.

Lizards and spiders do piercing damage, which is an inferior form to the slashing of the rest of the pets. There are no armours which are + vs slashing, or skills for that matter whereas there are for piercing.

Actually there might be something that is against slashing in the assassin sets, I haven't looked to closely at them.

They do... But slashing damage is still better.

Yeah, but spiders are KEWL.

Given how hard it is to do, though, it's pretty nifty to have a bear pre-sear though, and until he reaches Beacon's Perch and can hit Lorner's Pass there's no place post-sear to charm the bear. So having a bear for your pet is pretty sweet for a baby ranger.

I do wish Anet would do something to rebalance the bear's attack speed, like make the Brutal Mauling do +damage or something. I miss Bear With Me.

There are bears in the southern shiverpeaks.

Doesn't the Moa Bird have a faster attack rate than anyother pet?

I would like to have a pet Devourer, just like Mac does.

Why can you have a pet boar, but not a pet bunny?

Beacon's Perch, Lorner's Pass = Northern Shiverpeaks. Far earlier.

Nope.

Will you settle for a mini-pet devourer?
