Question What are the capabilities of a Ranger/Monk (R/Mo)

What can a Ranger/Monk do?

I know people say that players choose monk as their secondary a lot when they don't need a secondary really, but, I really want to know how a monk can benefit my ranger.

Can he improve damage?
Keep him alive? A survivor?
Good runner?
What skills/spells help him? Are most skills just not worth it?

***
My history with R/*: I have played a R/W effectively, I know what a R/Me's capabilities are, I and am almost done testing the R/N, which seems to have powerful capability but, in my opinion, is not that fun to play. However, I'm still in testing, my opinion may change with my new experiences.
***

What I have learned so far:
-Mark of Protection {E} helps a lot.

Various Smite buffs can work nicely with Barrage in PvE.

Hmmm...
Judges Insight works well with barrage if you want to do that .

Protective Bond + Storm Chaser + Greater Conflagration {E} = Severely reduced damage.

Protective Bond + Marksman's Wager {E} = Same thing. Just more difficult.

There's also pet build ideas. Take Life Bond instead of Parasitic Bond and Shielding Hands.

You can also add in a Life Bond if you're bringing Barrage. At a high enough Expertise level, the loss of a pip doesn't really do anything.

And, like they said, Smiting skills blend nicely with Marksmanship skills, in general. There's even a Smite skill that gets the bennefit from Expertise. I think it's just plain ol' Smite :P

Extra self heals?

A note on that: A R/Mo should never try to heal the party. Keep self heals only, and keep them to a cheap minimum (Orison, maybe)

IMO, a R/Mo is mostly a support build or an attack build. Attack is obvious. For support, just figure out what the Monks are bringing and take along things to supplement that. Warriors love it when you bring Mend Ailment.

I guess it's like any other build. Skill for the team and the area.

PvE-wise, Rebirth. 'Nuff said
If you go PvP, Martyr and Mend Ailment aren't bad for an IWAY trapper (double Spike Trap is overrated IMO). And of course, many top guilds like to throw in a R/Mo into their spike just to confuse you .

When I first started playing GW, my first char was a R/Mo. I never used the monk stuff much, so I switched to R/E and used Conjure Flame with Ignite Arrows and Dual Shot (this was before the AoE update and before I capped Barrage). Later on I switched to R/Me to work as a trapper, but now I'm back to R/Mo and the only monk skill I use is Rebirth. I occaisonally switch to R/Me if I feel like using traps (Mantra of Resolve ftw), but generally prefer to keep my attributes focused in my ranger abilities.

Ideas I'm toying with for my R/Mo, not sure how they'll work though...

Judge's Insight with Penetrating Attack to give 40% armor penetration. With a Horn Bow/Sundering bowstring, should be able to get 50% armor penetration.

Judge's Insight with any bow attacks to deal holy damage, should be great against undeads.

Live Vicariously/Vigorous Spirit with Barrage/Dual Shot for self-healing, every arrow hit is a heal.

Watchful Spirit for +2 health regen... like having a Ranger with Mending, but without the need to put points in Healing Prayers.

Pet tank with Essence Bond = battery!

IMO R/Mo Is best Speed Runner, Traps for Uw Are Nice,

I'd go R/e Id get a Shocking Grip, or Fiery Grip, Dual with Conjure Flame/Lightning +Barrage = Mega Damage

I thought it was the string that added ele type? But anyway, judge's insight+ barrage pwns undead. Drop fav. winds, cast judge's, and nuke away. Smiting lvl 8 or so works well (15 sec. judge's). zealus string for monster energy regen.
