R/Me Skills Question
I finally decided to quit messing around making tons of new characters just to play in the pretty pre-searing world and to start actually playing the rest of the game... Ugly as it is, it's still fun.
Anyway, I play a level 11 Ranger/Mesmer and I was wondering what kind of skills I should be using. Currently I am hanging around Piken Square and finishing up the quests there before moving forward. My currently known skills are listed below.
Beast Mastery
Call fo Haste
Charm Animal
Comfort Animal
Feral Lunge
Domination Magic
Backfire
Shatter Delusions
Expertise
Distracting Shot
Dodge
Point Blank Shot
Illusion Magic
Conjure Phantasm
Distortion
Imagined Burden
Inspiration Magic
Energy Tap
Ether Feast
Marksmanship
Favorable Winds
Hunter's Shot
Penetrating Attack
Power Shot
Read the Wind
Wilderness Survival
Ignite Arrows
Quickening Zephyr
Troll Unguent
No Attribute
Called Shot
Dual Shot
Ressurection Signet
I currently have the following skills set for use: Power Shot, Called Shot, Read the Wind, Troll Unguent, Conjure Phantasm, Ether Feast, Ressurection Signet, Charm Animal. As for attribute point allocation, I have placed 6 points into Marksmanship, 3 points into Wilderness Survival, 3 points into Expertise, 1 point into Inspiration Magic, and 6 points into Illusion Magic.
My most commonly used skills are Conjure Phantasm and Called Shot. I use Conjure Phantasm to kill my targets quicker and to counter all forms of healing that they tend to use. Called Shot makes sure that they don't dodge my arrows like they are so prone to do otherwise. Occasionally I will activate Troll Unguent, but that is mostly when I am trying to escape, have been affected by a DoT spell/skill, or have come upon a rather large group of enemies. Charm Animal is only equipped because without it I would not have Aesi, my level 10 Melandru's Stalker, following me. That kitty is useful... I use Ether Feast when I need a bit of health restored, generally for running away. I'm not much of an in-battle healing person, as you can probably tell by now.
I don't think I really need to bother going into why I have the other skills readied, but if you'd like to know go ahead and ask.
I'm basically wondering if, for where I am, my set skills are adequate or if I need to do a bit of switching next time I pop my head into a town. I do well enough as it is, I just think it's highly possible I could be doing better. Thanks in advance for any help and advice I receive on this matter.

Your skills are fine for the moment, but as you go further into the game, consider some of these changes:
- Drop the pet, unless you plan to invest some serious skill allotment to using it. A pet is a detriment to you unless you pump points into Beast Mastery, as they die easily, possibly disabling your skills in a crucial situation.
- Since you have RtW, you do not need Called Shot. RtW currently quadruples your arrow speed (or so I've heard), which should be plenty fast to hit your target. If you are really uncomfortable with missing, consider bringing Favorable Winds for an extra push. Instead of Called Shot, try Dual Shot, which does huge damage with RtW and/or FW up.
- Bring either Hunter's Shot or Penetrating Shot instead of Power Shot. Both are much better, Hunter's being more versatile and energy efficient, Penetrating doing good damage with a decent recharge rate.
- Distracting Shot is incredible with a bit of practice. Bring it and love it
- Finally, consider dropping the Illusion line once you get to Kryta. Conjure Phantasm is immensely appealing in Ascalon, where the monsters probably have no more than 100 HP each. Later on, you'll find that the degen from Conjure is simply not worth the energy cost, and there are far more effective degen skills that fit into a ranger's already narrow attribute spread. (i.e. Apply Poison, Incendiary Arrows, Poison Arrow, Melandru's Arrows, Hunter's Shot)
So a build with your current skills might look something like this:
Dual Shot
Hunter's Shot
Distracting Shot
Conjure Phantasm
Read the Wind/Ignite Arrows
Troll Unguent
Distortion
Ressurection Signet
Give it a try, and see if it works out. Rangers can handle just about anything in the game, so just find the skillset that suits you best .
