Default Green bows and bow Strings?

Is this possible, was just curious if I should be going for a gold instead if I want to use the bow strings.

TIA

It's my understanding that Greens can't be upgraded. I've never tried it myself, but that's the word I've gotten. Maybe it's one of those GW urban legends.

Remember once you customize a green you cannot resale it, or salvage it so basically if you do customize it when you want to get rid of it you have to throw it away into your trash can icon.

IMHO, Greens are great for casters, but for rangers and tanks, I generally prefer gold items. There are some good green bows out there, but more than likely to get that perfect bow for your build, you'll want something with a slightly different mod. When choosing a bow ask yourself these questions:

Do I want a bow that

- has a faster refire rate (i.e. more shots per minute)
- shoots arrows faster (i.e. less time taken for arrow to travel to target)
- has longer range.
- is compatible with Conjure Flame/Lightning (associated with Ele secondary)
- works with Spinal Shivers (associated with Necro secondary)
- increases dmg by up to 15% in stance, while enchanted, while hexed, while health is aboce 50%
- increases length of enchantments
- increases marksmanship +1 up to 20% chance
- increases health
- increases armor (against just elements, physical, or all)
- has armor penetration up to 10% chance
- lengthens poison
- steals up to 5 health at the expense of health regen of -1
- steals 1 energy at the expense of energy regen -1

For my build, I made the following bow:

Gold Longbow
damage + 15% (while health is above 50%)
Lengthens poison on foe 33%
armor + 5

I don't use stances much, never use enchantments with my ranger, usually use apply poison, and prefered increased armor over increased health. Also I prefer the longbow for it's increased distance since I can cripple warrior enemies from a distance and stay safe. Also favorable winds, quickshot, or read the winds can always be used to lower projectile flight time and lightning reflexes can be used to increase refire rate.

Here are some helpful resources to making/finding a bow right for you:

one of the perfect bows would be in the composite series...not to slow, high arrow speed medium range. and take note, the horn, shadow and ivory bow have innate 10% armour penetration to make up for their otherwise crappy stats. i'd go for a gold with the exact mods i want...greens maybe for a little fun if i get rich one day.

no not the composite bows, the horn and shadow bows are the same class and have the 10% armor penetration, but the slowest refire rate among all bows. Composite bows and eternal bows (which are better IMO) have a fast attack speed and similar range.

Green Bows are typically crappy (the ones with the right bow type have sucky mods for that bow type). The new Elswyth's Recurve is ok. Some say the poisoning longbow greens are ok too.

Now a summary of those links you were given:

Short Bow Class includes all Short Bows and Half Moon Bows.
Short Bows have:
- a Fast refire rate (They tie with another type for the fastest)
- a normal flight time (which doesnt really mean much since your so close)
- but has the shortest Range (like half size of aggro bubble)

Short Bows are mostly used for the bulk of the fight when you are going to be up close - becuase of their speed.

Then you have Horn Bows, which include all Shadow bows, Horn Bows, and Ivory Bows.
These have:
- A slow refire rate (Slower than even the long bows)
- Medium range (about the size of aggro bubble)
- A normal flight time.
- Since they pretty much suck otherwise, they were given a damage boost in the form of 10% penetration.

I honestly dont know anyone that uses them for their satts..just because some of them have rare skins.

Long Bows includes long bows and storm bows.
- Of course they have Long range (hence the types name - bigger than aggro circle)
- again a normal flight time
- Meduim refire rates.

This makes Long bows greatly suited for start of battle pulling in PvE.

Flat Bows include ..Flat bows.. (and the pre-order bow that noone uses)
They:
- They have the range of Longbows
- They have the refire rate of Shortbows
- If thats true why doesn't everyone use them? because they have SUCKY flight time. The worst.

Flatbows miss alot because of enemy kiting, and forget about interupting with them. But Flatbows are carried by Spiker Rangers because "Read the Wind" or "Favorable Winds" does away with the sucky flight times so they become the best choice.

Now MY favorate bows, The Composite Bows. This includes all: Composite, Eternal, Dead, and Recurve bows.
They have decent all around stats:
- Med-range
- Medium Refire rates
- Their big point is their already awesome Flight times.

These well rounded stats don't make it the most effective quick dmg dealer bows, but the flight time makes it the best interupting bow becuase of the low flight time and larger range than short bows.

(When I say "this type includes" that means any bow with that in their name have the same stats...Like Eternal Bows and Composite Bows share these stats as do Short and half Moon bows)

(Ascalon Bows [collectors] falls into no group and you'll have to test to see its speed, flight time, and everything for yourself [or look on fansites])

ive got the same bow as archon lol
imo, why get a +30 health mod for tons of gold when a +5 armor for 3k works just as well

Green Bows can't be upgraded or salvaged. For a Ranger gold bows are better. If not there are plenty of collector's bows that work aswell. Mod the bow yourself so you have a bow to suit your needs.

I personally believe that long story short, the kind of bow that is best is really judged best out of personal preference since they are are relatively equal in their strengths and weaknesses. As for green bows, I wouldn't go so far as to say that any of them really suck, but I have yet to find one that serves my taste as well as the gold bow I wield. With the right build however, I think plenty of the green bows can work well (ex. Drago's vamp + barrage or Boulderbeards + interupt, etc...)
