Default Looking for trappers

Hey all.

I'm a R/N trapper although don't use any Necro skills. I just came back to the game after takiing a few months off as I was getting bored with it. However now that I am back I'm having a good time like I did at the beginning.

My problem is: Trappers seem to be very misunderstood! I've been going from place to place trying to get a group of trappers ONLY, to try some of the missions as I've never done this before. Figured it might be fun. I have done HOH and FOW, (although never made it through either, about the time I left), however never regular missions.

It seems like there aren't many of us left in the game. And the few times I have found a group, so far at least, the people don't seem to use trapping the way I used to. Lay traps, back up, draw mob, and kill. Seems pretty basic to me, although things might have changed since I came back.

My guild is useless to me now, as most of the people I used to hang with have left, so it's left me looking for pick up groups. And if I'm the only trapper in the group, forget it. I'll politely ask people to draw back and let me lay traps and 99% of the time they barge ahead making the traps useless.

So what I'd like to do is get some other trappers in my friends list, and maybe if we see each other online, we can get together and do some missions. My in-game name is Ol Geezer, or just post here and I can add you to my friends list if you're interested in this kind of thing.

Sry about the long post.

Thx

There are many people in the GW community who don't understand the use of tactics more generally, which is what is causing your difficulty with pick-up groups charging ahead of your traps. I feel for you, fezz47. I've been requested by some groups to bring traps and then they do the exact same thing. People are impatient. My belief is that they are expecting me to be an offensive trapper, sneaking up behind our warriors and dropping traps behind a wall of meat-shield. If you can't find a lot of other trappers to work with, you might want to look into changing your secondary to Mesmer, using Mantra of Resolve or Concentration, and trying out some offensive trapper tricks like that, since trying to get a pick-up group to draw mobs to all-ready set traps is like pulling teeth at times.

My trapper's IGN is Sinthea Firebrand

I mostly farm with her, having done all the missions, but hey - some of the best drops I've gotten have been while helping people do missions.

Last night I got my 5th black dye doing Frost Gate with my level 20 healer, Farmer Jim Bob.

Pure trapper groups are run in UW all the time, mostly on smite runs. Also done UW spider capture with all ranger trapper groups also. Mostly, warriors are way to impatient to let trappers do their job. I know ppl have tried running trap groups in SF, but the mix of fighters and ranged mobs makes it difficult.

Hey!

I have always wanted to run a trapper build..but.. I always ran into your same problems, so I just deleted. You have inspired me to make a new char- a mad trapper I'll add you to my friends list, and hpefully see you soon

What would you(anyone) recommend as a solid secondary prof, that would give out the most benefit?

normal trappers doesn't do the job fast, and pulling doesnt always lead them to ur traps. beside being a offensive trapper is just as good. get a second as a mesmer and bring mantra of resolve, raise inspiration so u only lose 4-5. The only place that most trapper only team go is probably UW which is very fun. Lay alot of traps and watch those aaxtars fall. so much fun.

Of all the ranger builds, trapper is my favorite: seems it runs in the family. IGN: Aithne Stormraven. I run a variation of the ViM Trapper and play both traditional trap and pull and offensive trapping depending on the situation. I love following Whirling Defense with Throw Dirt/Dust Trap and watching the Warrior's sword waving in the wind as I blind/cripple/bleed/set fire to him and apply poison if time permits....If he doesn't run (advice on this can be taken from even basic GW AI), the poor fool drops dead 80% of the time (16 wikderness survival can do that to you). ANd while he slowly realizes he's getting trashed by a tiny ranger..."Victory is Mine!" Wow...I have full health AND energy! I still like the older, more patient style of trapping, but getting offensive with it has added a whole new dimension to it as a sub-profession...put a bit more interest in it by running to the ice caves farming Icy Dragon Swords with only two or three traps...all good fun and LOTS of damage.

Trapping now (except for Favor area farming) - is more offensive.

traps still work great at protecting soft targets in CA: if there smart and listen to you tell to stay still, those warriors dont have a chance

If you want to trap in PvP, you'd probably want to go R/Me(or VIM R/W if your using a specific team build) with Mantra of Resolve..if you want to get a team in the tombs anyway.

Agreed trappers rule. I personally like 4 man UW trapping. It can be alot of fun if you are in the right team. The team I was with was quite unexpeienced, however, I'm not complaining found a rather nice staff down there

I have started to feel that trapping is going downhill and many people think me a noob for even advertising as one.

I ussually run the traditional trap and pull set up, although i can do VIM and whatnot. I think it would be awesome to find a full trapping group sometime (As far as I can tell there extinct )

Spike trap can be capped from Vulg Painbrain on Ring Of Fire, it's an Ettin boss, pretty easy to get to.
I love trapping myself, I've done a lot of UW runs so if anyone wants to team with me, just add me to your friends and give me a shout when Europe has favour.
I've been in a few parties in the new tombs where I've been asked to go as a trapper, but people (Warriors mainly) get frustrated at the time it takes to lay traps, so after the first map I usually end up standing at the back with a near useless skill bar, chucking arrows.
