I love running weird builds in CA and these are two of my favorites. Both are variations of the R/N touch build. Both are gimmicks and not very effective but can deal out some ok damage. On top of that, rangers are difficult to kill so I've gotten 10+ wins with these a lot of times.
R/E
Expertise: 11+1+2
Wilderness Survival: 3+1
Earth Magic: 10
Air Magic: 10
Water Magic: 0
Shock
Aftershock
Frozen Burst
Lightning Touch
Escape
Whirling Defense
Troll Unguent
Resurrection Signet
R/Mo
Expertise: 11+1+2
Smiting Prayers: 10 (variable, could take it as high as 12 at the expense of WS)
Wilderness Survival: 10+1 (variable, see above)
Bane Signet
Holy Strike
Banish
Smite
Troll Unguent
Escape
Whirling Defense
Ressurection Signet
I had to explain/apologise to my team before we began otherwise people could get a little frustrated
Edit: Added the attributes.

The wierdest build I`ve ever seen was a warior with Ether Prodigy. He the +15 energy - 1 energy regen items. EP only lasted 5 seconds, and then he was a half. He died quickily.

I tried a war/ranger setup trying to find a use for flourish using bow attacks and then another setup using fav winds and barrage... whats sad is in random arena this build managed to take a few people out.

ok let me start by saying W/Ele nuker build is not a weird build.
my main war is and always has been a tank/nuker. ofcourse after u kill ppl over and over they r always calling u a noob for a war using meteor shower. lol
but here is the build
Fire-12
Strength-9
swords-9
tactics-9
bonetties defense/sever artery/savage slash/watch urself/pheonix/meteor shower/inferno/flameburst
my primary weapons r FDS and crimson carapace, when i use meteor shower i switch to my falchion and flame artifact 20/20
and ive used that since day one with only 1 real change Firestorm. lol
|
omg. It isn't hamstorm. This is:
~14/15 sword, 12 fire, 4 strength
Hamstring
Galrath's Slash
Final Thrust
Bull's Charge
Glyph of Sacrifice
Meteor Shower
Firestorm
Res Signet
Oh, the other day I saw a Mo/R using only ranger skills. Kind of odd.

I use a N/R with Rotting Flesh,EoE,Putrid Explosion and Death Nova. It's the best method for creating an EoE bomb by oneself I've devised to this date. It pales compared to the W/Mo's with Heal Area and Monks using Frenzy that appear in CA, though..

Here's one a bit weird for you. ME. Lol. My primary (currently only) character is an E/W weilding sword and shield and the only "offensive" magic I have is lava font, which is absolutley horribly deadly in it's evil 5-7 damageness. d-: Really I use it for strategy against monsters, not against humans (I don't PvP yet and I might never believe it or not.) Lava font is handy because when a huge group surrounds me (or someone such as a NPC or a healer I'm trying to protect) I just drop one of those in the area and bam, the monsters nearly always turn and run. It only requires two seconds to cast and recharges quickly, so I can get away with using it a lot. Doesn't matter that the pitiful damage it does isn't even effective against old ascalon monsters, the AI just runs automatically on principle that it's an AoE. This buys me or the other person a few moments of breathing room for healing or whatever.
Ok, that's common knowledge probably. The fact that my primary fighting is a sword (with frenzy I might add) is pretty weird though. I thought about W/E, but, believe it or not, my main reason for E/W is that I just can't stand the sight of warriors... (Laughter cue card held up here.) Seriously though, I'm determined to find a way to make this build work, and it's kind of not entirely coming out badly. I suppose it's not as good as more experienced people will mange (I've been playing something like two weeks now -- I loose track) but, still, I manage to survive througha surprising amount I think. One thing I'm doing though is going the "clay fighter" route and adding a lot to earth magic, then casting armor of earth to raise my melee armor. Just recently I grabbed an icy sword hilt and added conjure frost to my répertoire to add extra elemental damage to my attacks (I know, this could hurt against those with good water armor and as soon as I find a good one I can afford I'm going to be carrying around a backup plain sword.) Unfortunatley, I have to carry sprint in place of my res signet because no matter how many times I say at the beginning of a mission that they should let me keep up between groups, no one does (this is especially a hassle when I need them to pause and let the thing wear off so I can run ahead and drop a lava font to keep a stupid NPC from dying.) Right now sprint still isn't enough to compensate for the slowness of the armor of earth spell, but, it helps a lot so I can keep up better at least.
As for the frenzy, well, I just can't stand how slow normal attacks are. I have a feeling I'm going to like assassin with the dual blades if I ever get the cash (or don't loose interest in GW) to get the expansion. Besides, between the extra armor and the fact that I lack the strength skill to compensate for extra armor, frenzy isn't too bad and all but necessary as long as I keep an eye on my health.
BTW, I'm a level 16 and I haven't gotten far enough to get many skills just yet. The way I see it, this build can go one of two ways. Either later skills increase the effectiveness and I end up with a decent character that doesn't suck, or, late skills don't help me much and I end up falling so far behind as to be useless with this character. I have my fingers crossed.

The weirdest build is on the box. Warrior who shoot arrows on a bone dragon and his skill set is sword attack mixed with ele magics.

Try to adopt the Earth magic line and you can beat Warriors at their own game when it comes to tanking.
Though, tbh, in PVE, Axes > Swords by a loooong shot. For me at least.

I once saw a n/mo using infuse health as many times as possible on his team mate (before battle even start). As soon as we got in his range, he used grenth's balance on us... lol
Oh, and they lost.

the more common build for that is a N/Me with illusion of weakeness and some sup runes with grenth.
not effective but really fun (200+ damage)

I don't know about that, but, before I even started this build, I had seen a mention of "Clay Fighters" on guildwiki explaining that idea. I've been carrying armor of the earth and keeping earth about as high as I can, so it's adding something in the upper 40s to my armor atm at the cost of slowing me I think 28% or so right now (can't recall exact numbers off the top of my head.) The only problem is that my teammates rarely seem to pay attention when I tell them ahead of time that I need time to recharge and for the armor of earth to fade between major groups, so they just run off ahead while I'm slowly dragging along trying to catch up and my energy is next to nothing. Really though, I'm kind of getting the hang of using it only when I need it so that it's hopefully faded by the end of the battle (I shouldn't have to do this) and as long as I'm using it and a monk actually heals me on occasion, I don't usually die a lot. Unfortunately, once I die once, it's nearly impossible not to die twice, and after the second death I'm useless.

I don't care. I'm a sword person. Lol, it's not even by choice, I swear it's in my blood somewhere, though I'd be darned if I could say exactly where.
BTW, the bow wielding W/E on the box could have just been using a no-req bow for long range with intentions of switching to a sword in short range. With such low MP regen, he has to be careful of spell-casting, so probably just used the bow primarily for aggroing. Unfortunately, the game has a habit of not switching weapons as quickly as it seems it should sometimes, so I find that using a bow for long range ends up with me using a bow for short range for a shot or two when I don't want it to. In many games, such as Neverwinter Nights, I find this method to actually be quite handy though since you get in an extra hit or two you normally wouldn't have. Mind you, arrows are probably only good for aggroing a thing like that, not really much damage I'm sure.
