Yep, your pets get the healing.
Right now this skill is bugged (or the skill description is incomplete), as attacking with a bow actually gives you the health bonus twice.

Also, the healing reduction does not seem to affect life-stealing skills like Vampiric Gaze.

i was able to work it into a solo build that has no traps, and centers on barrage.

Life steal is nothing like heal, so yea - it doesn't work on it.
It also doesn't work on any enchantment heals.

does the life gain only apply to you, the ranger who created the spirit, or does it affect everyone in range of the spirit like the healing reduction?

Everyone. It thus works best if you have more attack damage occuring than your foes do, since you gain with each one. It also benefits teams relying on regeneration and health steals, since these aren't "healing" and aren't reduced 20%.

they should change the text, if that's the one in game, because it's really poorly written...anyone know if this description is up to date with the one in game?

Whats Wrong with it?

"Create a level 1-8 Spirit" - Self explanatory. You Create the spirit

"For creatures within its range, all healing is reduced by 20%." - I can think fo no better way of saying that - creatures in its range have healing reduced 20%.

"If any of your attacks hit you gain 5 health" - Might could say "When you hit with an attack you gain 5 health" but thats basically just saying it a different way, meaning is the same.

"This Spirit dies after 30-126 seconds." - Self Explanatory.

Whats confusing about it?

I agree....... pretty easy to follow. Its a good skill if you combine it with:

A pet (any but the bear) and call of haste.
Barrage.
Tigers fury
Lightning reflexes.
Dual Shot

Especially good when youre a warrior/ranger or ranger/warrior, you can use flurry or frenzy with this.

Adding a pet doesn't really do much with this skill. The pet gets the healing, and it's not a life steal or anything like that. In general, the biggest part of this skill is the reduced healing.

I was confused with the wording as well, because it implies only the caster gets the 5-healing bonus. The wording should read that "when any creature attacks, they gain 5 health." In other skills that I can think of, when it says "you," it means the caster (ie, prot bond).
