rangers dont almost ever use their second prof in PvE. /me is ok for some late game startegies though.
Most people save their 4th slot for PvP though....

if your going to pick second profession id say warrior or monk for the running abilities. Also the monk rebirth or restore life is very useful in pve and pvp.

NEVER bother a ranger. It's likely you'll find an arrow hitting you where the sun don't shine if you do.

After beating the game with every class except Mesmer (working on it), Ranger is still my fav class. I've had my ranger since the last BWE, and I never get sick of playing her. She is my solo moneymaker, my runner, my explorer, and my go-to character when someone needs help with something. IMO Rangers are the most versatile class in the game... it seems no matter where you go, there is a ranger build that will excel in that area. Try not to get too discouraged when you are low-level, because rangers really come into their own once you have ascended, done the extra attribute point quests, and acquired a decent selection of elite skills to play with.

I love my ranger, I have played all classes, and my ranger is the only one that I have beaten the game with.
As far as a secondary, I alsways end up back at monk simply becasue I hate res sig. there are some really good warrior stances and mesmer makes a great secondary if you want to specialize in trapping and interupting. When properly played a ranger can kill anything.
On my last mission, a level 24 monster killed everbody but mehe was a fire moonster so I kept stormchaser going to keep my energy up, I would res someone he would hit them and they would go down, it was just me and him. I switched to my vamp bow to health going. Afet a litle while I got hes casting rythym and would savage shot the spellI didn't want him to cast, and slowly killed him. After which our warrior, who I rezzed a few times, left (I think in shame). Not so good

Ranger was the last of my four characters also.At first they do little damage and no party for missions fully apreciates there skill. However by lvl 15 i was a powerful oppenent and could already run myself to many of the areas in shiverpeaks, krytpa, etc. Also rangers in the form of trappers and spikers are very sought after in pvp and FoW.Despite having played warrior, monk, mesmer and elementist,i found ranger to be one of the more interesing characters to play and id say ud enjoy it to my friend

I love my set of Rangers. For one, as stated above, they are very good class for almost everything outthere.
For a secondary Profession I would either pick Monk or Mesmer. Mesmer for the purpose of making Ascending easyier. But then again, thats just me.
But yes, rangers are by far my favorite class, their always fun to play with. So yes, A Ranger IS worth it.

Alright thanks i guess ill go with it after hearing you guys worship em lol, i've always gone with the ranger or mage in other games i've played (D2 and RS2) the only reason i was hesitant about this was cause in this rangers fire much slower than in the other games (which is I supose a much more acurate representation of a bow) and they hit much lower than my other char's did when they first started. but you all seem to think they own and no one posted against em so i guess ill go with it, thanks again guys.

I actually started to feel good about my ranger in Maguuma. He is my second toon and I am having more fun with him than I do with my warrior.
Of course trapping in UW might have something to do with that.

you get a few good preps even at low level. get a low req bow and use apply poison, ignite arrows, or read the wind. I think you'll get more damage if you concentrate on wilderness survival when your still a low level. Traps and elites don't come till later in the game anyways.

you kidding? Conjure/poison arrow is a nice pve combo for a r/mes. Throw in phantom pain for the stuff that doesn't poison.
that's just the tip of the iceberg. Why have a secondary if you don't use it? Especially with a ranger. A secondary for them just adds to their versatility.

I use a Ranger Mes mer combo and let me tell you there is no end to the trouble you can cause with a R/ME. They are easily convertible to trapping runs, well just about any ranger build is since trappers only really use ranger skills. Where a ranger really shines is PvP though. Particularly a Ranger Mesmer. You have the opportunity to be one of the most potent anti caster characters on a team. You can effectively shut down enemy monks with fast interrupts from both the ranger and mesmer skill sets not to mention those nasty necros and mesmers. Mesmers can swear by Mantra of Resolve all they want but a good ranger/mesmer can hit you with so many interrupts in such a short period of time I've actually seen them eat up a mesmer's energy by making mantra of resolve trigger so rapidly.

Rangers are the most versatile characters by far. For every build you have, there is a ranger build that can counter it. Any monster can be made a fool of or simply blown away by an appropriate ranger build.
Rangers can solo, or be highly contributive members to their party. They are the only class that by itself can inflict every type of condition.
They're also the most fun, imo.
Should you bother with a ranger? Definately. It's rewarding and entertaining.
As has been said before, rangers don't hit their stride until the higher levels, once you've slapped a sup. expertise on them etc.. But once they get going, there is no stopping them.
