Solo Monk Offhand ~ Fiery Flame Spitter
Just curious, has anyone tried using the hand axe Fiery Flame Spitter with a +20% enchant mod for solo monking? It has the 10% chance for fast cast, but comes with a -5 armor as well. I was thinking that since armor doesn't matter that much at all, this would be a better combo over a standard axe or sword (including the cool look of the IDS, chaos axe, etc )
Looking forward to getting some feedback.

The FFS, in fact, is better than you portray it.
It has 10% change of fast recharge, and -10 armor while attacking I believe.
The armor penalty is completely irrelevant, so that need not be taken into consideration. The 10% spell recharge is exceptional, however, and can be compared to the HoD sword easily in terms of efficiency. Considering 55hp soloers have maintained energy, it is technically a better, and therefore the best, choice.
What I'm saying is... I'd use it

Perfect...thanks for the clarification above on stats. Trying to remember from memory, as I'm at work I'll be using it for sure then!

FFS is much more useful than HoD for a solo monk. HoD, unlike people think, isn't any useful for an invinci-monk. HoD is real good for warriors, but i-monks don't need +5 energy, as their energy should nearly always be full (Balts Spirit, Bonettis, etc)
The only reason it's worth so much is because it was taken out of the game, its usefulness to a solo monk isn't proportional to its price on the open market, at all.

the usefulness of the hod sword was for the ability to put a 20% enchant pommel on it. the extra 5 energy was just a bonus. the ffs has the same option, so it boils down to +5 energy or 10% skill recharge. i would go with the skill recharge.

For solo monks, necros, eles, and mesmers the FFS is better than the HoD weapons, hands down. There is no competition.
HoD is just a staus symbol, nothing more.

It was a change in the wording actually, they've been doing a lot of that recently.

Yeah, like he said. HoD = look at me, I'm rich (for a solo monk that is)
Any weapon with a 20% enchant mod does just as good as the HoD, a 20% enchant FFS is just so good when the 10% recharge kicks in for SB or SoJ : ))

Just to clarify, in my opinion the HoD sword is really only appealing to my IW Me (which I have btw . If you have an IW Mesmer you know exactly what I'm talking about. For monks, after soloing last night with the FFS, it is hands down the best weapon to use with the +20% enchant mod. The spell recharge did kick in and it was nice when it did. No, it didn't make the runs dramatically easier or anything, but I could see a run or two here where it COULD make the difference between death and survival.

I like to change the FFS into an IFS of Ench (Add Icy Axe Mod). If you are going with a necro they can cast spinal shivers and you can do some active interrupting of coldfires, etc

Side note, the collector isn't always there, I dunno if it's a bug or what but I'd say he's there 80-90% of the time. I find it wierd but oh well not like there's anything hard on the way to make the run inconvenient.
FFS is nice I guess in theory but if you know what you're doing as a 55 you can stick to your looks equipment. 20% Chanting IDS FTW!! If you're looking for this weapon to change your ability and go from suck to not, might as well salvage the runes out of your armor and give up because if you're concerned about a new weapon to change the tides I think you're wasting your time and plat going to UW.

yeah...it seems to be a random spawn. Maybe Anet's way of making the items somewhat valuable for those patient enough to farm them??

Except that you can farm about 20 ffs worth of lodestones in half an hour and make 2 trips given you dont find him the first time.

lol...true true. You'd be surprised at the number of people that will only go once though. Skill capping comes to mind as another example of this type of laziness....

You can also try and buy a "pre-nerf" one, that has 15% skill recharge. Not many of them around anymore though.

It's been 'confirmed' that all the 15% ones were changed when they were nerfed. Even the ones that were 15% are now 10%.
