Default my new favorite build: A/W

Yeah. I know its been done before. But most A/W builds have wild strike and crit defence. I dont like crit defence. Why? Well, the real purpose of crit defence is to provide protection while on an attack run. But that protection costs 10e. Which means that if you use it at the beginning of the attack run (for its enchant to activate GPS for example)(and assuming u are running AoD ), you really don't have enough energy for an effective run (another exception to this is if you use Black Lotus Strike, but then u have to bring a hex, and the cool-down is 25 seconds).

Besides, thats going through a lot of trouble to provide extra protection on a short attack run. If you are attacking a single isolated target, you don't need that protection anyway...your protection is in your shadowstepping. The problem is if you need protection AFTER the run, or while fighting a warrior, or when a friend comes to help.

Enter the "Bonetti Sin"

Dagger 13
Crit 13
Tactics 8

AoD
GPS
Horns
Falling Spidder
Twisting Fangs
Bonetti's Defence
Dash (or other run skill, or crippling daggers, or res sig if appropriate)
Healing Signet

OK. The idea here is that after you do your run, autoattack maybe 2 times more, then hit Bonetti's. GPS is probably available, but Horns still has a few seconds to go. Anyone attacking u will probably give you 5e (if you block, which has a 75% chance). Bonetti's Defence is cancelled when you use a skill...actually, it cancels when you FINNISH using a skill. So it is on while casting healing signet. This does not require any energy (but does require 8 adren strikes). So you should be up to near full energy by the time Bonetti's is over (8 seconds)

I guess if I had Vivacious Daggers (or whatever those -1/+1e on attack mod is called), Then energy is less of a problem. But for right now, this build gives good defence while still allowing me to effectively deliver the damage.

wow, first try at an effective defense sin.

At first i fretted the thought of "oh, well what if they attack while your still gaining adrenaline?" and then i saw AoD and was all like..."Hellz yeah, they wont see you coming!" so you can land your attack, gain adren fast with dual attacks and be done with your combo and stay protected from any wondering wammos!!

but shouldnt disabling AoD and teleporting back to your secluded spot be enough for protection? Since the melees are gonna then have to run to you anyways...idk..but it works for me and i like the train of thought put into this

I think the bonettis was used to possibly pull of 2 combos and then tele out instead of 1 combo tele out wait wait wait wait tele in then go. Thats what i got when i was reading it.

Looks good. Might have to try it out if i get bored

Thanks for the vote of confidence.

Actually, I've been playing in Fort Aspenwood lately. I just sort of like the gameplay there...other objectives besides killing. If I ever get into an Asian guild, maybe I will do this in alliance battles. [edit- because I live in Asia and there is big time -difference with American guilds...not because I have a thing for playing with other Asians ]

In RA, I think AoD...or even just Return would be enough, if you have a monk and if you put that party-member hot-key on before the match started. But in Fort Aspenwood, its not just wammies you got to look out for...its Thumper rangers, regular poison arrow rangers, minions, and those frigging bad-ass Luxon warriors. Oh. And other sins.

AoD is a very good skill. I play with this skill just because I enjoy it. I like the teleport effect. But looking at it honestly, it does not really take you out of danger when you zip back. Rangers, and casters can still hit you. Many warriors have running skills that will help them close that distance quick if you are not on your toes. And then there is the posibility that someone is now in the area where your return shadow-step is. So, the point of this build is to put some decent short-term anti-melee protection into the build, but mainly to help out for getting out of the attack run alive. Without using energy and those slowing down the next run.

Another reason to use this is in a zerg. At Aspenwood, there are frequent big fights that, as a sin, I should not get invovled with. BUT, I sometimes see that the monk or mesmer in the fight is at 50% health, and if I zoom in, I can finnish her off. Problem is that those Luxon Warriors are still around, as well as an opposing team ranger and warrior. They may be occupied with others, but if they see me coming in, they may switch targets. With this, its a little easier to pick off weaker targets, running away, and hitting those targets again. Eventually Bonetti's will be up again, giving me some energy-free protection.

i know waht you mean about the AoD out and still getting hit by casters and what not. I think if you have a warrior on you. Most likely the 880000000 luxon warriors that swarm you. I AoD out when they start bangin on me and one time i AoD out a long ways from where i was and i guess the warriors had already clicked their skill cuz i got hammered with all of their attacks and no one was near me.

So having bonettis could be nice when you aod out

I usually dont have a problem with getting attacked while in a retreat-AoD scenario. I usually find a lower (or higher) point than my target, and behind something before i AoD into them. I also do this once they main fight has started, so that im not being targeted. But when i AoD back out, i press X on my keyboard, thus about-facing then run away, getting me just out of cast-range and obstructed from arrows before they can cast a spell

Finally I see a good amount of thought put into assassin defense if you need to tank. Great Job on this ogami.

^^^Thanks. But I want to stress that the point is not to tank. And this will not help it tank really as this is a defence that only kicks in after the main attack combo has been delivered at least once: 4 attacks. Assume that one of them was a double strike. That means that the sin probably needs to get hit once and make 2 more hits himself before this kicks in.

For a more certain defence, Defensive Stance works better (for 5e, and I think it lasts 14 seconds and ads armor too). But to really add defence, you would need to play an A/R or R/A so you can actually use your skills while in the stance. An A/R would probably need special equipment mods to keep energy levels up. A R/A would have no energy problems, but would not get Twinsting Fangs. That being said, once you get that -1regen/+1 on hit dagger mod, going A/R would probably be better, replaycing signet with Troll Urgent and Bonetti's Defence with Dryder's Defence.

I know it's not to tank, I guess I just had a brain fart when I tried to put into words that you did a great job on the anti-melee defenses.

Was kinda trying to say that I like how you have the build able to withstand melee if needed, but you still maintain emphasis on hit-and-run.

for once I won't say noooooo sins doonnnnntttt tannnnkkkkkk! this actually would work, you defended yerself from y anti-sintanking line by including that is for while actually in the fight and only for if some tanks wanders in, also by including AoD I know you atleast aren't a total loss.
