Ranger with 115 Armour
hi guys.
this concept might have already been discussed but i'm gonna give it a go anyway.
Greater Conflagration (Elite) - (Nature Ritual) Create a level 1..8 [11] Spirit. For non-Spirit creatures within its range, all physical damage is fire damage instead. This Spirit dies after 30..126 [158] seconds.
Winter - CH1 (Nature Ritual) Create a level 1..8 [11] Spirit. For creatures within its range, all elemental damage is cold damage instead. This Spirit dies after 30..126 [158] seconds.
Ok. So the point im trying to make is, if one uses Greater Conflagration and then Winter, all damage (elemental and physical) will become cold damage. Now if you're a Ranger with Full frostbound aromour, thats 115 Armour.
I can think of a few places where this might be very useful. Any thoughts?
EDIT: You may want to throw in one of these Mesmer stances as well for good measure.
Mantra of Frost - (Stance) For 30..78 [94] seconds, whenever you take cold damage, the damage is reduced by 26..45 [52]% and you gain 2 Energy.
Elemental Resistance - (Stance) For 30..78 [94] seconds, you gain +40 Armor against elemental damage, but you lose 24..14 [11] Armor against physical damage.

Sorry, but this is nothing new. It can be used anywhere.
You want more defense? Add Dryder's Defense, mesmer's Elemental Resistance stance. Get an Elementalist to cast Ward vs Elements, then get a warrior to use shields up.
This is akin to (This really isn't the place for it but...) the "OMG how much life do you have?" Warrior. Which is W/N - using Demonic Flesh (+176 max health), and Defy Pain (+258 max health).
With a Ranger, Monk, and Ritualist,
Symbosis (125 max life per enchantment on creature in range), Fertile Season (290 max life), Vital Weapon (+148 max health), Vital Blessing (+168 max health), Essence Bond, Balthazar's Spirit, Retribution, Life Bond, and other enchantments.
This brings the warrior - 176+258+290+148+168+125 x # of enchantments + base health
= base + 1165 (with only 1 enchantment). Remember Vital Weapon is a Weapon Spell, not an enchantment.
But anyway, you can have your armor quite high anywhere in the game (although in the Shiverpeaks, you may not want to use Conflag and Winter).

No one in TA was smart enough to spend 4 seconds and kill both spirits/render 2 slots(including an elite) on your bar useless for another 56 seconds?

Thanks for the quick posts guys.
Sorry. Should have specified where im going with this.
Looking to develop this into a solo build maybe. Just looking for a few comments, anything constructive.
And yes, you could use Dryders defences etc etc. But with this build, you can indefinately maintain 150+ armour with the two spirits and Mantra of Frost.
Plus, Necro orders wont affect you either

Sadly, anything that isn't elemental based or physical based will affect you with base armor (or ignores armor).
Dark, Chaos, Judge's Insight still affect you at base.
Lightning Damage that does penetration will hurt you too.

True.
So thats why you gotta pick out carefully where you use this build.
To be honest. I was just bored and wanted to do something different. Plus its kinda cool having so much control over the battlefield when you can change whatever type of damage is dealt

This is a good option for the last mission in Prophecies since you go up against a lot of fiery enemies. Not only do you get icy nukes, but icy slashes from the tanks and rangers also.

The last mission is where Greater Conflaguration is. So prior to Factions, you must allow the Ranger Boss to create it before you use Winter. But in every group a Ranger is almost a requirement (must bring winter). Elementalists bring in the nukes and Winter turns the Meteors into Ice Cubes and hurting all in their path.
This has been the way since the first player steped into Hell's Precipice.

I once thought of an indestructable HA build with this. Everyone would bring an elemental armor Boost and they would take very little damage. Through in a Ward against elemental and thats even better

No actually. When you sit down and read the skills it makes sense, but most people just think your a newb for bringing "useless" skills. Ignorance is a common theme in Guild Wars.

Damkel:
This combo is as old as Guild Wars itself. It came in the preorder book:
"Ice Warriors - This build consists of a large number of warrior/mesmers. Use the absorb Frost Mantra, followed by Greater Conflaguration to turn all physical damage into Fire damage. Next use Blizzard, which turns all elemental damage in to Ice damage. This way all your Warriors get a huge reduction in damage from frost, allowing them to focus on dealing large amounts of damage in melee combat."
Obviously the skill names have changed since then, but a sound idea.

Yup. Thanks for that bit of history.
I was in no way suggesting this was a new idea at all. Just want to try and work this build into a something of a solo build for the primary Ranger.
