Default Which Elite, Psychic Instability or Energy Surge

I'm new to the Mesmer and have just found out that domination is the way to go in the world of PvE. I'm trying to make a build (if anyone could show me one that would help to), and have looked through the mesmer elites and the two that have caught my eye are Psychic Instability and Energy Surge. They seem pretty fun to use in PvE and I'm just wondering can anyone help me make a choice of which one to use in a build?

Thanks

Mainly I just use Power Block as my dom elite... Surge hurts at 16 dom, hurts a lot - but IDK how useful it would actually be compared to something like Ineptitude or PB. I say let the eles do the damage; I'm around for shutting things down.

Surge makes no difference in PvE. Unless you feel like using it for damage against enemies you know will be compact. Best off using Energy Drain.

Psychic Instability is a nice irritating interrupt thought. Its an entire interrupt bar in 1 skill, it just less variable.

In PvE? Use neither.

There's no real reason to KD in PvE (and even less of a reason to give up your elite for KD), and if you want to do AoE damage, be an Ele.

Using E-Drain to power your other skills is always a nice choice if no other elites fit your build.

So Luxa neither is a valuable asset in PvE. Oh well . But the sad thing is this is a Canthan character and how will I be able to wait that long to find Power Block on Perdition Rock. Could anyone give me any worth while elites then since i'm still in Cantha.

I actually never used an elite till I got Power Block anyway. I just had four or five interrupts (including Power Drain for emanagement), then Empathy and Diversion or Shame, plus a res. For Factions PvE, the only elite that I've really been much interested in is Stolen Speed (caps are in Vinzunah Square, Shenzun Tunnels, and Dragon's Throat). The others seem primarily for PvP.

Yea your right, so far i'm either using Stolen Speed or Psychic Distraction for my elite (the only downside to distraction is it disables my other skills for 8 secs however it has a recharge of 2 seconds )

In lower level PVE, energy surge+arcane echo is wonderful because you can draw monsters close to you and double fire it which wipes out most of the mob instantly.

Well I just use Glyph of renewal as my elite in pve. Mesmer elites are best suited for pvp and glyph allows you to cast all nice thingies like shatter hex, backfire, empathy and shame twice as often.

Glyphed shatter hex on tank is wicked nuke and takes some burden out of monks. Glyphed empathy allow you to annoy two melee monsters, glyphed shame shuts down healer mobs and so on...

No they're not!

But for PVE they are your most powerful skills you can rely on, surely more than any elite (except for Ineptitude maybe, or Energy Drain).

^ I've gotten the most out of Edrain as my elite for a dom build. You can snag that one once you step into Cavalon.
