Default Wrong Section...Sorry!

*Sorry this is in the wrong section...my mistake*

I have devised a modified trapping build that I have found is successful at farming trolls (and presumably would work fine with other creatures that trapping is good for, such as minotaurs). I find that this build is simpler than other trapping builds, because you do not have to worry about laying down more traps after your initial traps are set. Here is how it works.

Equipment

Armor - I use Druid's Armor with a Hunter's Shing Jea Mask. In theory, you could substitute the Hunter's Mask for a Tamer's Mask.
Runes - I use the following runes for this build:
- Superior Vigor
- Superior Wilderness Survival
- Major Expertise
- Minor Beast Mastery
- Minor Marksmanship
*The Minor Marksmanship is not necessary at all, as you won't be using a bow.
Weapon - I have been using a Rare Insightful Raven Staff of Shelter. The useful parts of this weapon are the +15 energy and the +7 armor vs. physical attacks. No need to worry about damage or other modifiers, as they will not matter much. Note: you will never actually attack a troll, so choice of weapons is based solely on mana and armor.

Skills

Storm Chaser
Whirling Defense
Mist Form {E}
Serpent's Quickness
Barbed Trap
Flame Trap
Dust Trap
Viper's Nest

Attributes

Water Magic - 6
Beast Mastery - 7
Expertise - 13
Wilderness Survival - 15
Marksmanship - 1

Details

Use Storm Chaser to run past the Avicara and random Trolls until you get to the mouth of the troll cave outside of Droknar's Forge.

Cast Serpent's Quickness and then set your traps in the following order: Dust Trap, Barbed Trap, Flame Trap, and Viper's Nest. Lay down the traps again, making sure to cast Dust Trap as soon as it recharges (the other order does not matter). Lay one more set of traps, with the exception of Viper's Nest (2 of those will suffice). Note: Dust Trap should finish recharging for the third cast just as Serpent's Quickness finishes recharging. This should leave you about 40 seconds before the traps expire (plenty of time).

Once the traps are set, go aggro the trolls by walking close enough to let them in your aggro circle. Allow the initial trolls to get close to you, then cast Mist Form. This next step is important. Allow the trolls to group up around as you gradually lead them to your traps. You should have about 13 seconds of Mist Form to play with here. Be careful not to let them surround you by taking small steps towards your traps whenever a troll tries to get in front of you.

Once the trolls set off the traps, some will run, but they should all get damaged. Once Mist Form ends, cast Whirling Defense to minimize damage taken from the trolls (they should still be blind, which helps too). At this point, sit back and watch it happen. The trolls should all have stepped on your traps almost simultaneously. They will all be poisoned. Some will run, but do not worry. The trolls who do not run will die fairly quickly from the burst damage of the traps. The ones who ran will die shortly from the poisoning from Viper's Nest. There is no need to lay any more traps, thus no need to worry about being interrupted again or letting your traps recharge. If you feel like it, you can still lay traps, but I have found that it is pure luck more times than not in getting more traps set.

The grouping of the trolls is the key to this build. By grouping the trolls, most of the trolls should hit the traps at the same time, meaning they all take a ton of burst damage. All the trolls will also become poisoned, which will kill the trolls who get out of the traps early, as noted above.

Notes for beginners

- Make sure to remember where your traps were layed. I make sure to put them by a geographical marker, a stalagmite or a pattern of light for instance, so that I always remember where they were cast. Bringing the trolls to the center of your traps maximizes the time they stay in the traps and thus, the amount of damage they take. It also ensures all trolls get hit by the traps before they run away.

- Make sure to group the trolls tightly. Again, this build is built on the concept that the trolls will take more burst damage and stay in the traps longer if they all enter the traps together, instead of one by one. Mist Form will protect you 100% at this point, so do not worry about getting hurt.

- Do not lay the traps to close to the trolls. If you do, sometimes a rogue troll will step into your aggro circle before you have set all of your traps. If this happens, run away with Storm Chaser, wait for the dust to settle, and try it all again. Remember also, that you will have about 40 seconds after you set your last trap before your traps expire, so no need to rush things.

- You do not have a lot of health in this build, so make sure you put up Whirling Defense as soon as you start taking damage. For beginners, I would suggest casting Whirling Defense as soon as Mist Form ends. Those with more skill can afford to wait a bit longer thanks to the blindness from Dust Trap.

- If Whirling Defense ends and all the trolls are not dead yet (or practically dead), it did not work...run. The most likely problem here is that the trolls did not hit the traps at the same time (one or more may have came in late, or not at all). To fix this, concentrate more on grouping the trolls. This takes a little practice.

Good Luck and Have Fun,

Desdemona Brighteye (IGN)
